I spent some time volunteering in Detroit, Michigan helping out at Life Remodeled, a non profit that brings life back into abandoned spaces.. Giving the local community a place to safely hang out, keeping kids out of trouble.
We stripped out a ton of old carpet, hauled it away with our Ford F150 Lariat (thanks for the loaner truck @ford) and moved 6-7 truck loads of lawn and garden equipment to a seatrain nearby.
Video on all of this soon — thank you Ford Family for the hospitality.

QUESTION: I’m building a 10x14’ studio that’ll be used as an office, guest stays, etc. It’s a 2x6” construction with a slab on grade, what finish should I do for the floors? I’m trying to stay cost effective..
Any other options, leave a comment!

Our next series.. a 100 year old full gut renovation! I bought this house to show the ins and outs of remodeling, I’ll share with you everything spent on the project throughout and teach a few things along the way.
We’ll be swapping in beams to ditch load bearing walls, doing foundation repairs, building a studio, and more.. I’ve wanted to do this for 13 years and here we are today.
This isn’t going to be easy, it’s not going to be quick… I just hope it’s worth it. Stay tuned in November for a series that you won’t want to miss!

Would you want to build a home with me? Along the way, we figure out together what products we use, what finishes, paint colors, fixtures, fascia board and more. YOU get to call the shots, what flooring looks best?
You get to be the deciding factor on how this home finishes out, from start to finish. I’m no interior designer, so I need all the help I can get.
The idea is that TOGETHER we build a home that any family would be proud to live in..

If you could pick any method of building for your home.. which would you want for foundation?

Pick the better of the two. If you were sheathing your own home subfloor, walls or roof, which would you use?

Spend time with your loved ones, call them when you can, be present and don’t work your life away. We lost my grandpa, “Papa”, yesterday. Thankful for the time we had together and I’m glad both of my kids got to know him. I’ve got his coast guard portrait on my arm, he was a big part of my life, and I kept up with him while his health declined these last few years..
Every time I’d visit in AZ he’d tell me, “I’ve been watching you on TV!”.. He kept up with the things I did, whereas most of my family doesn’t have a clue about what I do.
Take time from work, be with family, enjoy the little things. Life goes quick, be present in the one you’ve got.
