Apparently, this is not common knowledge so here: The final verses of the original Star-Spangled Banner make it crystal clear that the "free" talked about throughout the song are "freemen," which did not include slaves. So every time you sing "the land of the free" what it really means is "the land of the non-slave/non-black person." It boggles my mind how a racist song is still our national anthem in times such as these, just because people don't know the true lyrics. How can standing for this song bring our country together when the lyrics themselves are grounded in racist rhetoric? 🤔

Many people may not be aware that in addition to blatant/spoken racism, there exists a long history of oppression of the black community through faulty legislation and lost wealth-gain over time. Non-POC people may not realize this, as they may not experience law-based discrimination, which is a form of privilege many black people do not and have never had.
