My son had an emergency appendectomy yesterday. He's only 11 years old. Surgery went well but he's in a lot of pain. Crazy thing is, I had one at the exact same age; my mom and younger brother both too, as adults.
My sons "flu-symptoms" made a turn for the worst, Sunday night, and I recognized the signs right away but was actually hoping the ER would rule out Appendicitus and send us home but blood test and ultrasound both confirmed it. I just got home to let the dogs out. I've been awake for the last 40 hours or so. Hoping to get some shuteye.
I just wanted to share, to remind everyone we're all just human and live a life outside of what we do.

Just scored another old-school Crock-Pot for only $8 bucks. If you have one of these, you KNOW they're better than all of the newer slow-cookers. I have no idea why companies are making them the way they do now.
All of my Slow-Cooker recipes are based on this style of Crock-Pot because it's reliable. You don’t have to add water because the lids are so thick and heavy, they keep the moisture in and cooks like a pressure cooker, only slow and low. The newer crock-pots even have a vent hole in the lid, which is ridiculous because it reduces and dries out whatever you're cooking.
I find these older models, from the 80's, at second hand stores all the time. I had 3 but recently gave one to my brother to try. He said that it cooked the most tender, juicy roast that he's ever cooked. Says he's getting rid of his newer crock-pot and keeping the old one that I gave him. If you have a chance to buy one of these, don’t hesitate. They're awesome.

This Cooking Channel is about me, a Poor Man, making Gourmet meals, in my Kitchen. This means if I can save money by doing things myself, wheeling and dealing for better price's, shopping the sales, buying second hand equipment or excepting donations, I'll do it. Some of my recipes are cheap and some are expensive but cutting out the middle man and cooking these meals myself usually saves me 2/3rds the cost of eating out. This channel is based on a $500 a month food budget that feeds a family of 5 and this is how I do it! All Recipe Ingredients & Weekly Newsletter: PoorMansGourmetKitchen.com
