On this day exactly one year ago, I published my first video on KinoKirill!
I never had a direct outlet to share my passion for cinema like this before. I've enjoyed talking about films with my friends and people I met in the film industry, but I rarely had the opportunity to really dive into the topics that interested me and share them with a wide audience.
Once, I was given the choice to make a video essay in film school instead of handing in a written one, and I took the opportunity to give this new format a try. If you're curious what it was about, I compared two action scenes from Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch and John Woo's Hard Boiled. Peckinpah was one of John Woo's biggest influences, so I wanted to find out how it inspired his directorial approach to action. That was my first attempt at making video essays. I loved it and it stayed on my mind ever since. There were so many more movies and stories in film history that I wanted to research and talk about.
When I created this channel, I decided to start with a video on Wake in Fright, one of the films that have influenced me the most as a filmmmaker in the past few years. Figuring out how to make my videos get noticed on a platform as huge as YouTube was and still is a big challenge for me. So, I never expected that just one year from the time I posted my first video, I would have reached past 2000 subscribers and get my channel monetized!
A huge thank you to all of you who have been watching my videos so far and have encouraged me in what I do! I love making these videos and sharing them with so many viewers from across the globe!

We've already passed 1000 subscribers so quickly, thanks everyone for supporting the channel!!!
As I've done so far, I'm trying to post at least monthly, even if I had to skip June because of other concurrent projects. But every time when I come back with a new video, I'm really happy to see so many people from around the world toon in. It's still mind-blowing to me how my work can reach such a wide audience. I really appreciate all the positive comments and personal stories that people share under my videos, but I also value constructive criticism about potential inaccuracies or oversimplifications. I do my research as best as I can, but I continue to learn even after a video is done and published. I'm happy that there's a platform like this, where this kind of feedback is possible.
I'm looking forward to sharing my next video with you all! :)

I was going to make a post celebrating the channel reaching the first 100 subscribers, but here we are at more than 200 already! Thank you all so much!!!
I can’t believe how fast it happened and how quickly my latest video rose up, going on 15K views already! I’m happy to see so many viewers supporting my work and contributing to the discussion I started in the video. It’s easy to take for granted how websites like YouTube allow people from all over the world to connect, but it’s not so obvious when you try to get your little videos seen on such a huge platform.
To all the new subscribers, I would like to give a brief introduction to the channel and what you can expect to find here.
I love learning about how movies are made, the people behind them and film history. Researching and condensing this information into a video is a great way for me to learn more about all these topics. But, more importantly, for a few years now I’ve been frustrated with the overabundance of YouTube content about the latest Oscar nominees, the biggest box office hits or already renowned filmmakers and classics. There are countless lesser-known gems throughout the world and film history that I believe should be enjoyed, discussed and celebrated just the same. And that's what I'm trying my best to do with this channel.
I will definitely keep making videos about these underrated films because it’s the founding idea of the channel. However, just as I did with my latest video, I will also keep trying new formats and a range of different film-related topics, since the channel is still in its infancy. I don’t want to limit myself too much yet. I’d like to keep trying new things and explore the possibilities that these videos can offer me to explore and discuss cinema.
One last thing about the timing of my uploads. For now, I will release my videos around once per month. Aside from this channel, currently, I’m also busy with a couple of film projects and my studies. So, in order not to sacrifice the quality and improvement of my videos (along with my sanity), for the time being, I would rather release them at roughly the same pace I’ve doing so far.
Thank you all so much for your support! I’m going back to working on the next video now, which I very much look forward to sharing with you! :)

I talk about lesser-known films from around the globe that I think deserve more attention, especially amongst the countless YouTube videos about the latest blockbusters or the most acclaimed Oscar winners.
Whether you're a film buff or you just want to get out of your comfort zone and explore films you've never heard of before, you'll definitely learn something new on KinoKirill!
