I have reached 300,000 subscribers! πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰
I never set out thinking this is how things would turn out. In the beginning I just made some videos so I could sing them at my local Karaoke venue. Then I thought maybe I'd throw them up on Youtube so others might get some use out of them too. Knowing that you're all out there singing and maybe having a better day for it keeps me motivated to continue working on this project. πŸš€I fully intend to keep building this Karaoke collection for the rest of my life; So thanks to each and every one of you!

I'm OK ... mostly. I crashed while skiing at high speed on hard pack snow today. My left hand is fractured and immobile for 8 weeks. My right Clavicle is broken in four places and displaced. I'm out of the hospital and with family. It was a glorious last run of the season though; First person down uncut corduroy.

Still, with neither of my arms in good function for some time, I'll be taking a break from streaming, and new videos may not be posted as frequently while I recover. I will return as I am able :) There's a ton of stuff; years worth; that I am excited to work on!

Best wishes and happy spring to you all.

youtube.com/@LemmyCautionKaraoke
Lemmy Caution has returned with a new Karaoke channel after his previous channel was so cruelly deleted by "Tyler, The Creator". If you were subscribed to him before, or are just looking for more great Youtube Karaoke channels to discover, head on over and add him to your subscriptions! 🎢There is a limit to how fast he is allowed to re-upload his Karaoke videos, so keep in mind that it will take a while to get all 3,300+ videos back onto the platform. Go show him some love, and welcome back Lemmy!

For those of you who have tuned into my livestreams, I'm wondering how much advertisements have impacted your viewing experience. Especially in the last couple months, Youtube has gotten more aggressive with their ads and that has been a big conversation with channels I interact with. The moment I run Copyright audio on my livestreams, Youtube will start running ads on the stream. If we only sing non-Copyright audio, then there will be no ads. This is more restrictive with regards to what we can sing on air, but it still includes a lot of great stuff like Acoustic Lounge. So we can start doing this, and still run a great show.

I'm just curious about how intrusive these ads are for you all. ..So I'm running this poll to get a sense of that. Do they only run at the beginning? Or do they constantly interrupt live performances in the middle of a song? Do these ad-interruptions cause you to go watch something else? Do they make it harder for you to enjoy the stream? Any input is hugely appreciated on this. If the ads are a real issue, we can just sing claim free stuff and work around it.

The first 3 choices are about when the ads interrupt your viewing experience. I included the 4th because if the ads are causing you to exit and watch a different show, then it doesn't matter when the ads are airing, they are causing the greatest disturbance. What I'm really looking for is how many of you answer in the 3rd or 4th options. Ads running during performances or causing people to leave is something I don't want. I'd rather run claim free content in that case. If they only run at the start of the show or during our in-between song rambles, then maybe it's a bit less intrusive.

I'm 88 videos into the new format now, and though I will be continuing with the new text, I'm looking for some feedback on the frame. I've got a notion from comments that the majority like the new frame, but I figured it's worth taking a poll. I'm going to include an option for 'No Frame', and if that wins a majority, I'll go forward without the frame. Personally, I do like the frame, but there's more than one way to go with it, so I'm going to provide choices on that.

First choice is to keep going exactly as is. Different colors depending on the band, at the current level of brightness.

The second option is to dim the brightness significantly so the frame sinks into the background, but keep using a variety of colors.

The third option is to only use the off grey border. I wanted to have a brighter and dimmer option for this but I'm only allowed 4 choices lol. That being said, the off-grey is dimmer by default.

The fourth choice is to ditch the frame.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

On Tuesday I sailed south along the inside passage from Prince Rupert to Vancouver Island. My summer road trip is nearing its end, and I'll be back at Whistler in about a months time. I find that after 4 or 5 months away from home, I start looking forward to getting back, and then after a 7 month winter, I'm eager to get back on the road.

I've been working long hours on the channel the last few weeks. The summer is usually a time I can get into that rhythm, grinding out videos from the different campsites I visit, in-between going on hikes and exploring.

With that in mind, I've got over 200 tracks just about ready to post. This is the last big wave of 'remakes/upgrades' for the foreseeable future. I wanted to get em done so I can finally get back to focusing my energy on making new tracks. So expect that over the next few weeks I'll be posting a ton more tracks than usual; as I'd like to get these posted by the time I get moved back into Whistler. Probably something upwards of 10 per day on average to get them posted in time.

After that, I'll shift back to making brand new tracks. There will still be some 'upgrades' interspersed, but as I mentioned in my previous post, those are reasonably simple videos to make; I just need to drag and drop them into my converter to upgrade them, rather than fully remaking them as I did with these next 200+ I'm about to post. So the bulk of my work from October on I expect to be focused on brand new tracks, along with other side projects, like the Friday night CC & Friends show, and the CC's Music Television show I'm thinking about starting up.

In any case, I've got years worth of work ahead stacked in my folders lol. Decades probably; and I'll keep plugging away at this project as long as I'm able. 🀘

So here's a conundrum...

As technology improves, it allows me to do more things that I couldn't do back when this channel began. I use a piece of software to make Karaoke videos in a format called CDG. It's a great format because it allows tremendous precision, and it is critical for the lyrics to wipe at the most precise timing possible.

I convert the CDG files into video format for upload to Youtube. Thanks to version 3 of the converter program I use, I now can convert these CDGs in a way that creates a rounder font type.

So the big question is; which do you prefer? The new style or the old? Or is it not really a big enough deal to matter? (Both are solid. Don't sweat it option)

Then, if it is a big deal, or even just a general improvement, what to do with the previous almost 4,000 uploads on the channel? Upgrading all the old tracks is actually not much of a task. I literally just need to drag and drop them into the program and let em convert. Then I need to re-upload everything to Youtube. So it's not totally minor, but we're talking 5 minutes of work per track tops. Maybe it's a couple hundred hours of work. It's an insignificant work load in the bigger picture. I could maybe batch drop them in the middle of the night a few dozen at a time once a week or something.

Or does it matter enough to bother re-uploading anything? Should I not bother, but start on the new style going forward? Does it not matter which style I use at all? Or is the contrast on the old style sharper and I should keep going with that?

Your input is greatly appreciated on this!

After 5 and a 1/2 weeks in the Icefields, I've decided to roll the RV back down into summer. This quiet beachfront town is about 40 miles (60km) north of the mostly remote Yellowhead Highway. As a result, it's cheap and mostly empty. So I'll hang out here for the next week.

My ultimate destination is the west coast. I'll be rolling from site to site the next few weeks until I reach Prince Rupert. Then I'll sail south to Vancouver Island. Tofino will be my final stop before returning to Vancouver/Whistler for the winter.

5 weeks since I plugged into the grid. Batteries at 90%. 500 watts solar on the roof.

The sun is powering my laptops, TV, gaming, streaming, toaster oven, induction cooktop, lights, heat, fridge/freezer. Barely needed an hour of generator time, and that was for peace of mind in a storm.

Average daily highs around 15C/60F, and lows around 4C/40F. No bugs. A light cool breeze most days off the glacier through my windows. Sunset at 10:15pm. Rent is about $450/month Canadian. Glacier water fountains, flush toilets, and a Starbucks at the visitor center a few minutes walk across the way. Great internet signal.

This is my favorite summer home.
