Time to make some upgrades for my channel! Step 1 - improve the audio with a better microphone 🎤 I’ll be using this new mic for the next round of videos I record.

Back at it, recording new videos! I needed some time off to regroup and rebalance all my time commitments. I’m armed with lots of new video ideas and am ready to start posting them regularly again. First new video should be up within the week, then I’ll be back on my old monthly schedule. Thanks to all my loyal viewers for hanging in there with me! 💙

With a heavy heart I want to let you all know that the fabulous Shiray, who is featured in 2 of my ostomy videos, passed away last weekend. Please take the time to read her obituary below to honor her wonderful life 💙
Shiray Berry passed away at home on Sunday September 4th, 2022, finally defeating & murdering that villain cancer.
Shiray was born on January 6th, 1988, to Gail & Kenneth Thompson and was immediately loved deeply, to the moon, by her parents. Her dad was the butter to her peanut and her mother was her best friend and planting manual labor.
Shiray is survived by her ever devoted (he took those marriage vows seriously) husband Brady & her two dogs Hank and Earl. Shiray and Brady built a life on love, fun, adventures, and him telling her she was pretty (maybe a few bad dad jokes).
Shiray made a recent career change to a full-time book reader (forcing her friends to read crappy books with her), hooker (crochet, although she undid more in an effort to be perfect) and gardener after leaving Plateau, where she worked as an FSG Coordinator.
Shiray was admired across the country for the fierce determination and grace she has always shown. She served as a Fight CRC Ambassador and even in death will continue to haunt everyone to plan your next scope. “Fight for yourself, my friends.” -Shiray
Although she lived less than an average life span, her spirit and life were far from average. She lived the life she wanted, surrounded by the people she loved, laughing, and telling wildly inappropriate jokes along the way.
A celebration in honor of Shiray’s life will be held on Saturday, September 10th, 2022, 12pm-4pm at Traci’s Greenhouse, The Mission Event Hall.
In lieu of flowers Shiray requested that donations be made to FightCRC. fightcolorectalcancer.org/ or visit Shiray’s Facebook page for more information about donations.

Back on the recording saddle! It’s tough setting everything up when hobbling around on one leg, but Cassi sure made set up a little cuter.

Good news! My cast is off! I’m not allowed to put any weight on it for another week and a half, but I’m in a walking boot that can be removed for showering, getting dressed, and when I’m hanging out on the couch. It’s still not easy getting around, but I’m excited that I’m actually making progress (and that I can finally clean that lower leg and foot 🙈).

Thursday I go in to get my cast sawed off and see if my ankle has healed enough to be put in a boot instead of another cast 🤞🏼 In the meantime, I’m working on putting together footage for a vlog on how it’s been getting around in a cast, including navigating airports 😬

Happy New Year! 🎇 Are you the kind of person that makes New Year’s resolutions? I usually don’t, but will sometimes informally set some goals for myself.

Are you or a loved one a cancer survivor? Have you been diagnosed with cancer & are wondering what to expect? Just interested in learning more about what it's like to be a survivor? Welcome to Life as a Cancer Survivor!
My name is Jelena, & my world was turned upside-down in May 2016 when at age 34, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Cancer. I was the mom of a 5-year-old daughter. I was a runner. I seemed healthy. But my body had other plans.
I created this channel to talk all things Colorectal Cancer, & sometimes just cancer in general. Follow me as I talk about my journey from diagnosis, through cancer treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, having an ileostomy, and more chemotherapy) then adjusting to life post-treatment. I currently have No Evidence of Disease (what we in the cancer world like to call NED).
