PADDY COCKTAIL

Today is the 10th anniversary of Distinguished Spirits. Pretty mind blowing to think about. This was the first drink I made a video about. It’s just a Manhattan with Irish whiskey and a blackberry for garnish. I didn’t have any blackberries on hand, so I had to swap in a blueberry. Pretty solid substitution.

I haven’t been able to make a video in ages. Hopefully one day that’ll change. Until then…sláinte!

It’s a Clover Club kind of Christmas.

What are you drinking today?

This is the revised Clover Club with dry vermouth. So it’s a martini and a sour all in one.

2 oz gin
1 oz dry vermouth
0.75 oz 🍋
0.5 oz raspberry syrup
Egg white

Trying something new for happy hour.

What are you drinking this weekend?

I saw this recipe posted by Chuck Taggart. It was a something his husband, Wesly Moore, came up with. It tastes like a citrusy, bittersweet cousin of the martini. Kind of like a Hanky Panky riff.

Anodyne Cocktail
2 oz 94° London Dry Gin
1 oz Lillet blanc
0.5 oz Punt e Mes
3 dashes orange bitters
🍋 twist

Stir & strain, garnish with a lemon twist

They recommend Tyler’s City of London gin and Regan’s orange bitters. I had Tanqueray and used Scrappy’s orange bitters. I suppose if you keep Cocchi Americano around to make Vespers, you could use that instead of Lillet but you’d want to use a regular sweet vermouth, as you’d be getting your touch of bitterness from the Americano.

What are you drinking this weekend?

The tiki drink named after the WWII rallying cry: V for Victory. I hadn’t had one in a while. I kinda forgot how good it was.

Bartenders are a little superstitious about using an even number in their garnishes, so one olive or 3 olives, never 2. But in this case, the 2 pineapple fronds makes a great V and a secondary indication of V for victory, just in case the 3 cherries and a pineapple dash was too subtle.

Adios 2021! What are you drinking tonight?

MOJITO
2 oz (60ml) light rum
1 oz (30ml) simple syrup
0.75 oz (22ml) lime juice
handful of mint leaves
top with soda (approx. 1 oz/30ml)

Muddle mint with simple. Add lime and rum. Shake with ice. Double strain over ice in a long glass. Garnish with mint.
