In other news, we have multiple videos about to come outā¦ we are a bit delayed due to some ātechnical difficultiesā (ie a malfunctioning computer that we do all of our editing on). Hopefully weāll have that resolved (maybe today).

Elderberries: A Bountiful Harvest from Our North Texas Garden
Hey everyone! We're excited to share our first-ever elderberry harvest from our North Texas garden! Elderberries are a delicious and nutritious fruit that can be used to make jams, jellies, pies, and other treats (like syrup that can be used to fight seasonal colds and flu). They're also packed with antioxidants and vitamins, making them a great addition to a healthy diet.
** - Please note that elderberries should not be consumed raw. They contain a toxin that can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. However, this toxin is destroyed when the berries are cooked. **
We planted our elderberry bushes a few years ago, and we're so glad we did! The bushes are easy to care for and have produced a bountiful harvest this year.
If you're interested in growing elderberries in your own garden, we highly recommend it! They're a beautiful and rewarding plant to grow.
Here are a few tips for harvesting elderberries:
* Elderberries are ripe when they turn a deep purple or black color.
* Harvest the berries by gently shaking the branches or using a berry picker.
* Be sure to wear gloves when harvesting elderberries, as the berries can stain your hands.
* Once you've harvested the berries, wash them thoroughly and remove any stems or leaves.
We're so excited to share our elderberry harvest with you! Be sure to follow us on social media for more updates on our gardening adventures.

I was out in the garden this morning and found this visitor roaming around. Heās an endangered African Spurred Tortoise that escaped from his nearby enclosure (neighbors pet).
He was happy to be wandering on walkabout and found his way to our Two Doves garden.

We really dig figā¦ we have about 100 different varieties of fig trees (most are still too young to have fruit). Fig season has started and we couldnāt help but enjoy them this morning.
We went out late morning and harvested almost 2 pounds of figs from one tree. They taste sooo good!!!

John & Sarah are beekeepers and gardeners that share their passion for gardening, beekeeping, and growing native plants at their North Texas (D/FW area) homestead. Using permaculture principles and techniques, they strive to combat pervasive grasses, weeds, and vines - while having a strong dedication to soil health and improving the soil.
Join them as they are constantly expanding the gardens - and planting a food forest (with many varieties of fig and other fruit trees). We are passionate about our bee yard, attempting to provide native resources the bees enjoy and can use in their hive - including the use of pollen and nectar producing flowers, shrubs, and trees and share that passion by teaching others what we learn.
