After a day of cheering and chauffering to kid events (kayaking, water polo and cheer), nice to have some adult time supporting a great organization - the Hawaii Womenâs Legal Foundation.
We asked one of our (much younger) table mates to take our pic. She told us to move around and stop being so stiff and this was the result đ I think I might actually like these other pics where we are being silly better?!? #doctorcouple #hubbyandwifey #genx

Love this crew - absolutely could not care for patients without them and we always have fun. They're just glad I didn't make them do a dance this time!
Team work makes the dream work!

Goodbye Georgia! Our Hawaii @ikaikahawaii finished 4th at Nationals with an amazing group of kayakers/canoers, who are true champions but also just nice individuals. Any surprise that Arya was able sell 4 times the Ikaika merch that I was? Now really looking forward to getting back home! #familytrip #kayakers #ikaikahawaii

16 years ago. Our first day of private practice together. Hubby and I had no idea of what was in store for us.
We were petrified. We never learned how to run a business in med school or residency, no clue whether patients would come to us or how to manage staff.
Over the past 16 years:
We learned a lot.
We made a lot of mistakes.
We didnât draw a salary for the first 6 months of practice to ensure we could meet our payroll and pay our bills.
We took out 2 loans to pay for our practice. Swipe left to see our final loan payment check in 2018 (10 years after opening).
I remember putting my newborn to sleep and work an extra 3 hours every night, planning CME talks for pediatricians, optometrists and ophthalmologists. I went to workshops to learn how to make my own flyers and marketing materials for Vistaprint (remember this was 2008 and there was no Canva!)
It was not an easy journey.
But now here we are 16 years later, both of us taking time off from work to support our kids in their athletics on the mainland.
It has 100% been worth it. But it took time, patience, persistence, resilience and 16 years to get here!
We look the same right???

Everyone always asks why I moved to Hawaii. This is why.
Not the beautiful sunset. Or the gorgeous beaches.
But inside weâre having an extended family reunion for my husbandâs side of the family. 100+ people spanning 4 generations, all related to the same industrious man who immigrated to Hawaii in the late 1800âs.
My parents immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970âs. We donât have this kind of connection to a community here.
My kids can bike to their grandmotherâs and cousinsâ houses. And they attend the same school with their first, second and even third cousins. Itâs pretty special.

I had a great time this past weekend educating about myopia control (nearsightedness management) and how we can improve our kids vision now and in the future. And after decades in ophthalmology, itâs always fun learning about whatâs new in other specialties! Thank you PMAH for having me!
