If you take the time to practice and record your swings or enjoy studying pro swings, it's good practice to know how the camera lens and shot distort what you're seeing.
We've shown how the camera's position will change how a swing looks. The camera's lens also plays a big role in that too.
To illustrate we've set up a simple scene:
🏌️♂️ A tour winner at the top of his swing
🌴 A palm tree exactly 30 yards in front of him on his target line,
🛤️ And a set of railroad tracks (one on his stance line, the other on the target line).
NONE OF THESE MOVE as you look through the images.
The camera also stays at a fixed height (80cm) directly on top of the inside track. The only thing that changes is the lens and how far away the camera is from the golfer to keep the player at the same height in all pics.
Notice how the lens changes both the environment (the tree appears to move) and the player despite either actually moving.
The least distortion happens in the mid-40 mil range. Record in 40 millimeters when possible, but be careful of conclusions made from comparing swings shot at different focal lengths.
