In the backcountry our radios are going to likely be used for emergency communications because (especially now) there are accidents and they're going to happen. Many of us spend a lot of time refining our radio skills for emcomm support in our community for disasters, events, and other emergencies. As hikers, backpackers, hunters, mountain bikers, etc, our community is often our fellow outdoors people. Emcomm could be needed for a personal or isolated disaster, a fall, an animal attack, who knows. And we should know enough to rely on whatever we have or whatever will work. Phones, radios, GPS communicators....
It's about staying in touch, communicating with family and friends who are sharing in the adventure, and maintaining a safe system of communication in the backcountry.
With the inherent dangers of crossing wide open spaces and mountains with little to no method of communication, I began the search for a way bridge the gap.
