CONTEXT:
The π new year new me π energy got me reflecting a bunch...
For years I've wanted to do a series of videos that is:
β’ long-form
β’ conversational deep dives
β’ no flashy edits or music
β’ think: video-podcast vibe
β’ it would be in addition to the stuff I already make
Anyway, I kept talking myself out of it because I thought it would be:
β’ not visually interesting enough
β’ not respectful of the viewer's time (i.e.: an idea explained conversationally vs if i scripted it... it would lead to a longer running time, be prone to tangents etc.)
β’ almost too imperfect/vulnerable (idk)
β’ lowering the standard of polish (arguably good?)
β’ bad for the channel (youtube superstition moment)
But I'm growing as a person, and I've started thinking that the upside could be big:
β’ I could make a video in 2 days instead of 2 weeks (which, if people liked them, would be a huge win-win)
β’ I could explore WAY more topics
β’ I'd actually be able to do consistent uploads (for the first time ever)
Anyway, it sounds trivial when i type it out, but i've been in my head about it. So I figured no point ruminating when I can just ask the people I'm making it for :)
all comments and thoughts are super appreciated!! i know this is a very in-my-head issue, but i just really love everything this channel has brought into my life

took a few weeks off coz I lost a close friend. Had some things to attend to. Back now in full force xoxo

This video has taken a little longer than the others, but DAMN I am SO proud of this one.
(indulgent text post warning)
Story-wise, it's a strong contender for my new favourite piece, but I'm also super proud of the process - coz creating this one was particularly challenging.
I found it pretty hard to write this story at first.
β’ I moved house... overseas... with a toddler and 2 dogs
β’ I got really sick (chrons gang) and also changed my head meds (wonky brain gang)
β’ The topic (doom-scrolling and negative news) at first felt too big and bleak to make sense of, and I was really intimidated by the task
This is all to say:
β’ I went sleepyhead restmode... and then got back on the horse
β’ If I hadn't committed to the A to Z of (almost) Weekly Documentaries I would have just given up, but I didn't
β’ Pushing through led to a breakthrough
β’ Cracking the arc and the angle on this video has been one of the most satisfying projects I've ever done - and I feel like I have genuinely leveled up in my storytelling through it
one must imagine sisyphus happy lol
I really hope you like the video - it's documentary 4 out of 26 in this series - and it'll be live in a few days time :)
