Welp, this kinda sucks, but none of the Halloween content I planned is going up today.

I realized a little while ago that the Fatal Frame II video wasn't going to be ready in time for Halloween. So I planned a small video about why there are four game journalists as ghosts in the game, figuring I would put that out today as a way to take advantage of the holiday and sort of hold a place for the proper literary analysis. A patron kindly got me footage of a key piece of evidence from an old PS2 demo disc, then I ordered the disc from eBay so I could hold the actual item in my hand for the video. It only gave me a small window of time between the disc's arrival in the mail and Halloween, but it's a short enough video that it was entirely doable.

Then I got sick. Just a cold, and those aren't usually that big a deal for me. But this made my voice audibly sick and hoarse, then over the weekend progressed to the point of constant headaches, bad sleep, and general misery. I wasn't in a state to work, let alone to actually appear on camera or even do voicework. This also meant I couldn't do the remaining pre-production work on the actual Fatal Frame II analysis, so that's further behind than I had planned as well.

So... here we are. I danced too close to the line, and missed the date for scary videos.

I'm still making both videos; I hope for the short one to go up in just a few days, and the actual analysis following within a few weeks. Alternatively, I might just put out the 50k Special first, since it's mostly done and the relevant timing for the Fatal Frame II video is already gone. Gonna make that decision in a day or two, when I've got a clearer head, as I'm rather disappointed and frustrated at the moment.

Apologies for the further delays. I hope the videos live up to expectations when they do release. Thanks as always for watching, I appreciate you all more than you know.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to give you all an update on how things are going for the upcoming videos!

I had originally planned on releasing the 50k Special earlier this month, then the Fatal Frame II analysis on Halloween. Unfortunately, this month has been a whirlwind for me, and while the 50k Special is well on its way to completion, I couldn't complete it without severely compromising my ability to get the Fatal Frame II video out by October 31st. So instead I poured myself into working on the Fatal Frame II video, and will be focusing that hardcore in hopes of completing it in time.

I'm also hoping to make a short addendum video, exclusive to Patreon supporters, about my thoughts on the Deep Crimson Butterfly remake on the Wii and why I kind of hate most of its creative decisions. So be on the lookout for that!

Once I release that, I'll finish the 50k Special (which you voted to be about the games that shaped my personal journey to understanding and appreciating video games as an art form) a few weeks later. I hate holding onto otherwise completed content just for the sake of spacing things out, so I'll release it to patrons as soon as it's done, regardless of how much longer it'll be before it goes public.

I'll use the time that delayed release gives me to skim back through The House in Fata Morgana, as it's a dense work with a lot of small details and complex themes, and I want to do it justice with my video. I'm hoping to complete that video within a month or two, so it won't be too long a wait between the 50k Subscribers Special and the analysis of this cult classic visual novel.

That's the long and short of it! After that, I hope to get back to work on the backlog of Patreon-sponsored reviews (it's been so long, I'm so so sorry), meaning Bioshock: Infinite, Red Alert II, and Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass should follow shortly afterward with few other analyses between them.

In the meantime, I've been wanting to get better at making regular, Patron-exclusive insights into my thought processes as I make my content. Much of the point of Patreon, after all, is to offer a look behind the scenes of the creator you've decided to support. So there's another post, exclusive to supporting patrons, up now. It's about the ways my opinions on Fatal Frame II have evolved in the process of making this analysis, and how I came to appreciate it more deeply than I did before. It will be made publicly available after the Fatal Frame II video goes up, but for now patrons can enjoy this exclusive look into my thoughts on the game!

Thanks as always for your support, your patience, and your generosity. Until next time, class dismissed!

I hit 50k subscribers!!!

To celebrate, I'm going to make a more personal video, much like the "5 Games that Changed My Life" video I made when I hit 10k. Patrons can vote on which video that is, so if you want to support the show and decide what the next video will be, head on over!

In the meantime, I'm going to start writing the Fata Morgana analysis and playing through Fatal Frame II for Halloween. See you soon!

The script for my upcoming analysis of the 2008 Prince of Persia reboot is available on my Patreon! Patrons at and above the $10 level can read it, and even comment with any feedback before the episode gets filmed!

Sorry for the dearth of content recently; some life circumstances have made it hard for me to bounce back from needing to go back to part-time. But I've got more content coming up, including an analysis of cult hit visual novel The House in Fata Morgana and a video exploring the (sorta) accidental themes of Christian imperialism in Left Behind: Eternal Forces!

Hey everyone!

I was supposed to have a new video up today, about the way FFXIV approaches social commentary differently from most other Final Fantasy games. Unfortunately, between a number of difficult family circumstances and a few days of sickness (don't worry, it's not covid), that didn't happen. So you can expect that video next week! It'll still be out just in time for Endwalker, don't you worry.

In the meantime, I'll finish that video up and keep working on some of my upcoming Literary Analysis videos, which include some interesting stuff that I'm excited to share with you. Sorry for the delay!

Hey everyone!

My situation has shown progress since I posted the video about my financial situation! The channel continues its slow but steady growth, but there was a major jump in support on Patreon and increased ad revenue from my higher video output these past couple months. All told, it's some good progress, and working on the channel full-time has been a wonderful experience.

That said, it's been a few months, and I'm still around ~$500/month short of what I need to keep this work schedule up. So I'm going to need to start looking for another day job. But thankfully, I don't need to go back to a full-time position; a part-time job will be enough to make up the difference without drastically cutting into my available hours for Games as Lit. work! And if I can keep up this upload schedule (aside from this month, which was thrown off by spending a few weeks helping my mother move across the country), I may even be able to grow the channel enough this way to get back to a full-time schedule later on!

Thanks for all your support, and I hope you'll keep watching and helping the channel grow. Every like, comment, and share across social media helps bring me closer to the dream of doing this full-time.
