Tom loved contributing “Runnin’ Down A Dream” to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, so it is an honor to have “Love Is A Long Road” featured in Trailer 1 for Grand Theft Auto VI from @RockstarGames. #PettyForever

Tom Petty is now officially a Doctor of Music! Today the UF School of Music in Tom’s hometown of Gainesville has conferred upon him an honorary doctorate degree. It is an honor Tom really wanted during his lifetime. Bruce Petty, Tom’s brother, shared these words:

“I don’t think anyone in our family, including him, thought that he would be linked with the University of Florida this way. It’s such a powerful thing, it was his lifelong dream, and I know he would just be over-the-top, crazy happy about it.”

To mark this occasion we have donated $100,000 in his memory to launch The Tom Petty Endowment for Guitars & Innovation. To continue Tom’s spirit of music mentorship, you can also donate to the endowment: www.uff.ufl.edu/giving-opportunities/027839-tom-pe

Out now - the powerful, new acoustic version of "American Girl" is finally available to the public on Live at The Fillmore, 1997.

The accompanying video realizes Tom's stated vision of the "modern" American Girl being "any kind of woman" and even features a cameo from his granddaughter, Everly. "In 2017 Tom changed his tour visuals to reflect a wide range of women," say Adria Petty, "and we are excited to carry on his wishes."

Co-directed by acclaimed director and Tom Petty's daughter Adria Petty (Beyoncé, Rihanna, Coldplay) with filmmaker Jacques Naudé, featuring lead dancer and cutting-edge choreographer Maya Taylor (Solange Knowles, St. Vincent, Rosaliå) with dancers Anna Iosipiv, Akane Little and Laura Aronoff.
