This week presenting my documentary “Alexander The Great Pharaoh” at the Archeological Film Festival in Bacoli, Italy. This marks my 43rd festival screening. Thank you to wonderful organisers for selecting the film! And thanks to everyone who came out to watch. This is one of those documentaries I’ve been dreaming of making, and after visiting Siwa last year with Ahmed Lamey Drwish it became a reality! And the wonderful Sofia Aziz who shares a love of Alexandros with me also contributed greatly to this project. My 41st film festival screening, but the first one I’ve ever been able to attend in Athens! I was so overjoyed to be invited to the @agonfestival for archeological films held in Athens at the Greek Film Archive to present my documentary “The Egyptian Cat Goddess: In Search Of Bastet”…I was very nervous that no one would come to my screening, yet I was so surprised to see that the cinema was full. I can’t begin to explain what this moment meant to me and to also be presenting to a Greek audience of which I have had a very special appreciation for my whole life.

I have been forced by your comments to make this statement: over the years I have had health issues which have affected my vocal cords. I have chronic issues with my sinuses and often experience sinus and throat infections ever since I was a little boy. I have to take Desloratadine daily to alleviate my sinuses, but sometimes it doesn’t always work and I can get sick. My voice fluctuates everyday, some days it’s higher, some days it’s lower, some days it’s raspy and some days it’s almost gone. Often when I have to speak for long periods I get pain in my throat and speaking lower and softer helps to reduce the pain. When I was younger I had to use a nebuliser daily for this very problem, and in recent months I have had to start to use it again with a saline solution to help moisturise and clear my nasal passages and throat. Please also be aware that 2 years ago I have started using a new microphone (tonor) which has a different sound to before, therefore you will hear a difference in the quality, as this mic captures my voice in its more natural dynamic state than the previous one. If anyone who follows me on instagram will remember I posted a video of myself speaking a few months ago where I had lost my voice completely and I sounded like Barry White for 3 weeks! This is an on going issue I am dealing with, my voice is my voice. Before recording I have to do vocal warmups in order for my voice to not break during the recording sessions, so what you get is the best I can do on the day. As for the comments on my accent…yes I am from South Africa, however my SA accent is not very strong and it has never been. In my early years I went to a private Cambridge school where we had elocution lessons everyday, hence I have a more “British” way of speaking, and I always have! My family is half Scottish half French so therefore my accent is quite far from your average SA accent. You also have to remember that I am first and foremost a filmmaker who has studied at film school and been through media training so my way of speaking has been trained. But I assure you there is no “put on” in my way of speaking, anyone who knows me for years knows this, the fluctuating tone of my voice is down to health issues which is noticeable from video to video, some are lower and some are higher, it depends on the health of my vocal cords at the time of recording. So please stop with the comments about what is going on with my voice…it is out of my hands and I try my best to provide the best voice I can on the day or recording.
