Next week in Riga, my wife Tomoe will be performing Bach and some repertoire which, until now, hasn't been heard on a violoncello da spalla - well, except for in Italy, last time about 350 years ago.
Hold on! It seems that in order to bring back some of the lost Italian culture, all you need is a bunch of crazy foreigners? Isn't the same true for Bach's cello suites? Or was Casals German?
Who is Tomoe? Enjoy her countless performances here on YouTube youtube.com/results?search_query=Tomoe+Badiarova

Two years ago, I asked YOU what YOU needed my help with the most. It turns out that unconventional approaches are what stand out, since conventional methods arguably stopped being effective about 30 or 40 years ago. Check out my latest videos and blog posts. When your passion for music starts to fade, there is another way. You might wonder, 'What's in common between sardines and violins?' If that's you, I get it. It turns out, there’s quite a bit—if you find a creative angle. You MIGHT find this article useful, especially if you put what you learn into practice. If you don’t, then it’s the same as not reading it. Happy New Week!

You can hear the sound of this Violoncello da spalla (2005) in a number of world premieres, notably those albums with Bach Collegium Japan: volumes 36 and 39, and the Brandenburg Concerti. Why was this instrument created? What are the benefits of playing it for a violinist or violist, and is there any repertoire? These questions are described in my upcoming book on the da spalla BookOnDaSpalla.com/

It is still the only video recording of Brandenburg concertos with three spallas instead of three large cellos. It appears that when Bach used the word "Violoncello", he may have had this instrument in mind, even though larger cellos existed too.

The only other recording I am aware of is the Bach Collegium Japan, Brandenburg Concertos, where the spalla parts where played by me, Ryo Terakado and Francois Fernandez.

In your opinion, should audiences in your country have access to experiencing local or touring musicians bringing this page in history of classical music back to life?

If you look very carefully, you might spot me among the spallists on the stage.

The latest shipped violoncello da spalla. The client has already used it in his production, literally on the day it has arrived at his doorsteps. Which of my videos do YOU find the most helpful and what do YOU want me to share in the next video? My channel is for freelance & independent violinists and violists interested in Baroque music, chamber music, finding their unique voice and opening new career opportunities. Luthiers seeking help with their businesses will find a TON of information in the videos and my book on fine violin making.

This is a bow for a violoncello da spalla. I am sharing it because I noticed a lot of violin and instrument makers love to copy my work from the images they find on the internet.

I have even seen a Violoncello da spalla that was not only made from an image off my website and it was quite distorted, but the dealer also said it was "probably a genuine Badiarov".

The owner, a violist and violoncellist da spalla, a member of a pretty well known group proudly told me about how genuine that "Badiarov" was.

I thought, she was kidding. But then I realised, she did not know who I was. So, I did not tell her not to spoil all her pleasure.

I love my job. It is so funny sometimes. You can see the process of making this bow in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6tVN...

Thank you. The previous poll had been 100% popular with 5 voters. Five votes is no where near enough to make reliable conclusions. From my personal observations, many people fall into the category of "somewhat affected", and still many fall into the category "completely unaffected" or, if anything, affected in a positive way. This is why the unconventional ways, legacy, insider secrets are gaining in popularity these days.

How did my videos help you? What would you like me to speak about in my videos?
Feel free to add your thoughts, wishes and specific questions you'd like me to answer in the comments.

By "Violinists" I mean all stringed instrument players: violinists, violists, cellists, violoncellists da spalla.
