This years morel mushroom season will soon be in full swing here in Canada! It won't be long before we will be back in the wilderness harvesting for an unknown amount of time. After this Sundays episode we will be going back to one episode a week on Fridays, just wanted to give everyone a heads up!

Let us know what you want to see more of going into this coming morel season, so we can capture it on camera while in the field.

We also have a 25% off all products sale happening on our online store from now until May 3rd, 2024 for anyone interested in some of the wild foods you may have seen us harvesting in our videos. Including a few new products we added this week: Dried pine mushrooms, a seven mushroom medley and a new featured special.

For anyone following along with our foraging adventures, we will be starting to release two episodes a week for the rest of our fall 2023 series starting in the new year. Once the fall series concludes we will start releasing our 2023 morel season content.

The 2023 morel season was a big adventure this year, it will be a more extensive look at what it's like to be a commercial morel harvester in western Canada.

Although it was a challenging season, we made the most of it and documented our entire journey from start to finish. 2023 morels will be a chronological look from day 1 through till the end of the season, from the perspective of being along for the ride with us. This means travel, bushcraft, cooking, scouting, harvesting, and lots of good times. It won't just be morel harvesting, but that will of course be our main focus throughout the series.

We won’t have a video releasing this Friday, August 11th.

In the future we will have more story videos and of course lots more harvesting videos, including our 2023 morel season content.

Thanks everyone who followed our 2022 morel season! This Friday we have an overview of our entire season condensed down into a two hour "movie" version of our adventure. It will include a recap of how much we harvested during our 40 days in the bush last spring. It will be our last video on morel harvesting for a while but stay tuned for what's to come after that!

Stinging nettle is a great spring time harvest. This nutrient and protein rich wild super food is particularly abundant and is generally avoided by most animals. It's important to harvest in the early or mid spring so that the plants have a chance to recover and create seed before the end of the season. Always cut stinging nettle at least a node or two above the base, which will cause it to form two stalks. Using this method can increase seed production for the nettle plant when done correctly.

I recommend taping your gloves to a long sleeve shirt while harvesting, and don't harvest while the nettle is flowering.

About 7 years ago while camped near a wildfire along the Yukon border a large male wild bison, which are common in that area, decided to live along side us. We think he was recovering from an injury and must have felt safe near our camp. For almost a week he hung around, usually less than 50 meters from our firepit area, grazing and resting while he recovered. We nicknamed him "Bradley the Bison" and eventually he went on his way, probably rejoining the other wood bison along the upper stretch of the Alaska highway in northern British Columbia.

Appreciation post for our mentor, Randy, who has been an avid harvester of wild mushrooms for over 35 years. He's still out in the bush with us every year harvesting and drying mushrooms and sharing his wealth of knowledge with us all.
