No dia 6 de junho de 1944, tropas do Reino Unido, dos Estados Unidos e do Canadá invadiram o litoral da Normandia, no norte da França.
O desembarque foi a primeira etapa da Operação Overlord — a invasão da Europa ocupada pelos nazistas. Seu objetivo era pôr fim à Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945).
Cerca de 156 mil soldados aliados haviam chegado naquela noite à Normandia, apesar do mau tempo e da brutal defesa alemã.
Ao final do chamado Dia D — que completará 80 anos — os aliados conseguiram firmar sua posição na França, dando início à derrota final da Alemanha nazista. A guerra terminaria 11 meses depois.
Amanhã aqui no canal será o dia todo em especial ao Dia-D.

On June 6, 1944, troops from the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada invaded the coast of Normandy, in northern France. The landing was the first stage of Operation Overlord — the invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. Its objective was to put an end to the Second World War (1939-1945). Around 156,000 Allied soldiers had arrived in Normandy that night, despite bad weather and brutal German defenses. At the end of the so-called D-Day — which will be 80 years old — the allies managed to establish their position in France, beginning the final defeat of Nazi Germany. The war would end 11 months later. Tomorrow here on the channel it will be all day, especially D-Day.
