Officially a Cardiac Medicine cerfified #nurse 🫀

This means new GEMS for me to share with you !

In pursuit of my forever learning curve to become a well educated and competent #healthcare provider, I’ve obtained two certifications this year ✍🏾

Sure they may just look like pieces of paper, but they in fact represent hours of study and conscious implementation of knowledge into actual practice

Lemme go ahead and add a few more letters behind my name

Think I’m done with certs this year 😅

Dialysis #nurse for the day . . .

Ok not really. . but kinda

Today I had a patients receiving CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy), these patients are 1:1 assignments in the #ICU and usually receive this treatment due to acute renal injury/failure

I don’t have much trouble managing these types of #patients theses days, but today I reflected back to January when I was first trained on the #CRRT machine you see in the background of the picture.

I was nervous, excited, anxious, but never doubted my ability to learn and be successful. .

Today encourage you to step out of your comfort zone a little. . you will usually find #growth on the other side.

Nursing is so much better when you have your other half. Coming home and having someone to vent about your day but then also understand exactly the madness you are talking about is priceless.

Two more days until my ICU preceptorship is over. In the past two months while I’ve learned more than I expected, I know there’s more out there for me to learn.

My ICU preceptorship was 10 weeks in length. I believe my previous position working on a surgical floor prepared me well for the ICU. What helped the transition a ton was that both my previous and current hospital use the same charting system.

Highlight education opportunities for me the past few weeks were:

Bedside intubation
Cardioversion
Code Blue
Chest tube insertion
Impella
Balloon Pump
CRRT
Multiple Drip titration
EVD drain
Death and Emotional Support
Organ/Skin transplant coordination

Thankful for my preceptor and her wealth of knowledge she’s so willing to share. Thank God for giving me challenges to overcome and opportunities to grow. While nursing isn’t “All that I do”, it makes up a big part of my life.

Nursing can be tough physically, mentally and emotionally. Just like sports. Reminds me a lot of my football days.

Learning is long HARD, just like practice was! But the rewards of winning after all those hours studied, or all those hours practiced is WELL WORTH IT.

I will continue to share my wins, losses, and nuggets of wisdom I pick up on this journey. I hope that others can learn from my experiences.

#LEARNING IS A SUPERPOWER

As #nurses it’s so important to continue to fine tune our #fundamentals.

Monica got hired on a #NSICU floor and she’s coming home everyday with skills like #EKG rhythms to practice.

“Glad” she dragged me out of bed today to #study with her.

I got better today 🧠
