'Sublime' / It is always challenging to create strong compositions when surrounded by the endless ocean and featureless grey skies of Antarctica. Here, even the most interesting iceberg in the world can quickly lose a viewer when it is plunked into frame without a foreground to draw the eye. It was by pure good fortune that I discovered this sweeping arm of ice one morning while exploring in the Zodiac. To me, it provided an almost irresistible path towards the ominous, towering pillar jutting from the dark water below – all I had to do was frame it up on a wide lens and release the shutter.
