Holy fuck, my newest video has a HUGE error!!! Luckily not in the material itself, but I claim, that the fact that half of the numbers in the number system Zp* are squares, _eventually_ helped 3 researchers win the Gödel prize. Of course this is a massive simplification — that alone doesn't win you a Gödel prize — but I just wanted to get across how knowing group theory can benefit you.

Well it turns out their algorithm does not depend on that at all!!! I tried to find out what made me think that and it turns out the book I used as reference (Computational Complexity by Arora & Barak) has an error!!!
cs.stackexchange.com/questions/140727/is-quadratic…

I also just genuinely and completely misunderstood the prize winning paper. I thought the point was that a certain probability generated from coin tosses was being preserved with this fact. That doesn't make sense at all in hindsight. My toy simplification is now not a simplification anymore but actually misinformation.

So my question to you is: What is the best action now? Take the video down and try to come up with a new application? This will take forever. Make a pinned comment but keep the video up? My video makes vixra look smart now. I'd love to know your opinions though before I do anything more stupid.

Found this cute post on tumblr. Made me think of the neutral element. I guess one could, as any proper mathematician should, generalise this meme to other groups but *operates you with the 0 degree rotation* – *Ach my ambient space stays invariant* falls kinda flat.

Congratulations to László Lovász and Avi Wigderson for receiving the Abel Prize. Seeing two computer scientists win this award for the first time means a lot to me and makes them the pride and joy of us computer scientists. Abel Prize winners always seemed so intimidating to me, since so many people have received the Abel Prize for work that takes a lot of background knowledge to understand—I'm looking at you, algebraic geometers! The only Abel Prize winner with contributions in the field of theoretical computer science (TCS) so far was Endre Szemerédi, but his non-TCS contributions made him a worthy winner anyway. Lovász and Wigderson winning this prize proves once again that TCS is on the same level as even the oldest and deepest fields of mathematics. I am so happy for them and I can't wait to see the next computer scientist win.
