We need to normalize unaesthetic homesteading.
Let me explain.
Often you see on social media beautiful farmhouses, expensive equipment, and elaborate barns, and this is described as “homesteading.” While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, you do not have to have a fancy home or farm to homestead.
Our chicken coop is nothing fancy. We built it when we bought the place, it definitely needs updated, but it keeps the chickens safe and happy.
Our barn is also not fancy. It’s a barn, and serves its purpose.
We built our rabbit hutches out of spare lumber, but they do a great job at keeping the rabbits safe and happy.
Our house is older. We’ve done a lot to it in the last five years and intend on doing more. It’s old, but has character and it’s our home.
You also don’t have to have 500 different animals to homestead. If you like gardening, do that! If you are good at raising chickens, raise chickens! Do what works for you. For instance I prefer goats over cattle. I am more knowledgeable on goats and more comfortable with raising them.
Homesteading looks different for everyone, so don’t compare yourself to others. We are all on a different path. ❤️
