I Am Yasuni is a global campaign to spread social awareness of Ecuador's Yasuni-ITT Initiative in order to indefinitely preserve approximately 180,000 hectares of virgin rainforest that is comprised within the unexploited ITT oil fields, in Yasuní National Park. In order to achieve this it aims to secure donations for the UN-administered Yasuni ITT Fund.
It is one of the top five-biodiversity hotspots in the world. A single hectare of the one million hectares of Yasuní holds around 700 species - more than all of the native species found in the U.S. and Canada.
Yasuni is home to indigenous peoples in voluntary isolation.
By not exploiting the oil, it avoids the loss of biodiversity, supports climate change mitigation, guarantees the conservation of forests as vast carbon reservoirs, and advances reforestation efforts to absorb carbon from the atmosphere.
Contributions to the Fund will be reinvested to preserve Ecuador's protected áreas and environmental conservation projects.
