Work begins on the Turweston Green Bridge 🌳. The 5,940sq/m bridge will carry a country lane and footpath across the HS2 railway, with space on either side to provide a safe corridor for small animals🦊, insects🐜 and birds🕊️.
With the foundations now complete, engineers have begun lifting the thirty-six massive steel beams that will support the 99m wide structure into position.
Once the main structure is complete, excavation will continue beneath the bridge to complete the cutting where the track will be laid. This will stretch for 1.5 miles between the Westbury and Turweston viaducts on the outskirts of Brackley, helping to reduce noise and disruption for residents.

Construction of the 700-metre-long Burton Green ‘green tunnel’ is now 50% complete. Over the last year, the team have completed the southern portal entrance and complex underground structural elements, including retaining walls and over 1,300 piles using 33,000 cubic metres of concrete in total.
Once built, the tunnel will carry HS2 trains🚄 through the village of Burton Green, near Kenilworth, and will feature a green space🌳 above for use by the local community. It is one of five ‘green tunnels’ being built on the project – shallower tunnels which will be finished with trees, plants and shrubs on top, helping them blend into the natural landscape.

Located in the London Borough of Hillingdon, this 880m long tunnel, is one of five green tunnels on the HS2 route.
In this video👇, we cover key developments inside the tunnel, including progress on the tunnel derailment walls, walkways and the construction of the five ventilation shafts.
We also explore progress in the area surrounding the tunnel, where 500,000m³ of excavated material is being reused on-site to create embankments and mounds, and key bridges have been completed.

Discover the impressive Rykneld Street Overbridge, measuring 90.5 meters in length and the final bridge to be constructed at Streethay in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
In preparation for the start of piling, Balfour Beatty VINCI, and National Highways have successfully built a temporary 320-metre stretch of the A38, which is now in operation. Once piling has been completed and the bridge deck is installed in late 2025, the realigned section of the road will be moved back to its original position where piling is now taking place – allowing space for the high-speed railway to pass underneath.

The 163m long Highfurlong Brook Viaduct, in Northamptonshire, is the first viaduct on the project to be completed. It consists of seven spans, and crosses Highfurlong Brook’s floodplain at a height of around 9m.

HS2 is Britain’s new high-speed railway. Once operational, HS2’s British-built bullet trains will provide zero-carbon journeys between the UK’s two largest cities, Birmingham and London, with services continuing on to Manchester, the North West and Scotland using the conventional railway network, cutting journey times.
By better connecting Britain’s biggest economic centres and catalysing plans for inner-city regeneration, HS2 will open up opportunities for the creation of thousands of new jobs and homes as well as driving transformative economic growth.
Construction of the line is well underway, with more than 31,000 jobs supported by the project and over 3,200 UK-based businesses helping to build it.
Comprising 140-miles of track, four new state-of-the art stations, two depots, 32 miles of tunnel, and 130 bridges, HS2 will leave a legacy of environmentally responsible travel, economic regeneration and technological innovation for generations to come.
