Our team are a hive of busy bee bana-grass-planters as we continue with replanting our entire bana gras plantation for the elephantsโ€™ essential supplementary feed. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿƒ Every few days we are blessed with some rainfall but mostly we are irrigating thanks to a pump, providing water from a nearby river.

The bana grass plantation stretches over three hectares and needs to be replanted every five years. The cost of replanting and maintaining the bana grass for the next year is $38,823.

Our bana grass plantation had reached a point where replacing it was more feasible and economical. All plants, like animals, have a set productive lifecycle, and our plants reached the end of theirs.

We are undertaking the enormous task of removing the old plants by hand and by tractor-drawn implement and fertilising, irrigating, and resting the soil, all while preparing cuttings from the mother plants to replant the fields once ready.

We are working row by row as we cover the vast area of bana grass needed for our herd of elephants. We will keep sharing a behind the scenes look ๐Ÿ‘€ as we continue with the project on the ground.

Thank you to our donors and supporters who make this all possible ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ˜

From a fragile calf to a courageous young elephant ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’š Today marks 8 years since Timisaโ€™s rescue in 2016. Found alone after losing her mother to a severe drought, Timisa embodied her name, "Courageous."

At just 18 months old, weighing only 216kg, she faced many challenges, including a life-saving blood transfusion. Yet, with the love of the Jabulani herd and her human carers, she found her place in her new family. True to her unique personality, Timisa even preferred drinking her milk from a bucket with pellets rather than a bottle.

Through the years, she has grown into a strong and special part of the herd, building beautiful bonds with Pisa, Kumbura, Khanyisa and her family who share in her journey.

Celebrate Timisaโ€™s incredible journey by becoming her foster parent. Your support helps her thrive with the Jabulani Herd. Visit tinyurl.com/4ny2d498 to join her story ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’š

Today marks the anniversary of Phabeniโ€™s rescue, a day that brings back memories of his feisty spirit and bright presence here at the orphanage. In his memory, we planted an orchid close byโ€”a symbol of resilience and beauty that keeps his spirit alive in its own way.

Watching the orchid grow has become a simple but meaningful reminder of Phabeni and the lasting impact he had on all of us. Though heโ€™s no longer here, his memory remains close, blooming quietly in the place he once called home.

Today, we celebrate 15 amazing years of Pisaโ€™s journey! ๐Ÿ’š Pisa was born on one of the hottest days in the summer of 2009, walking 4kms beside her mother Tokwe, our wise Matriarch, back to the homestead. From her first steps, her independent spirit was clear, and over the years, sheโ€™s grown into a confident young leader who loves guiding the herd and exploring on her own.

Itโ€™s only fitting that Pisa was born on World Kindness Day, as her gentle yet spirited personality shines through in everything she does. Though she still has the round head and short tail hairs of her youth, sheโ€™s blossomed in so many ways, especially when playing with the youngsters and sharing time with her best friend (and โ€œboyfriendโ€) Zindoga.

Join us in celebrating Pisaโ€™s journey by becoming her foster parent. Your support helps us continue to care for her as she thrives in her home with the Jabulani Herd. Visit tinyurl.com/48nyvum7 to foster Pisa and be part of her story ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’š

Rain, glorious rain has fallen! We are so grateful for a big downpour last night of 42mm, with more rain coming our way. Let's hope it stays for a while, to help restore our wilderness for the animals. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒฟ
