Vinyl Time Capsule, 1991 ā so much 1980s wave, punk, world & soundtracks!
Flipping through a big box of vinyl which had a long journey to find me in a barn in Japan. Most records started in Vancouver, then we left at a friends house in Salt Lake City in 1991 when i left on Grateful Dead tour and didn't return until 2016. So many gems purchased with odd job monies.
If'n ya love new wave, punk, and soundtracks, wow, you will have a blast digging with me. Also riffs about crappy vinyl pressing quality in the 80s and love of re-issues, gatefolds, and liner notes.

"Broken Bone Birthday Postcard Storytime"
Come hang out in my bedroom while i'm a little bit loopy from a pre-birthday busted foot and chit-chat about postcards, missing stair landings, hospital visits, cancelled vacations, and piglet cakes (that's a cake with a piglet decoration).
Postcards came from: my darling wife and adorable son, an unsecret agent in Virginia Beach, a youthful artist in Vancouver, Acorn Cottage and Newcastle UK, Gifu via Vernon, biscuits from Fukushima, Richard Brautigan enthusiast inquiring about Nick Bantock, Postcrossing member, a few mysterios, a Mass lit scholar on Cape Cod, a birthday twin in Germany, and a generational media philosopher, and others i forgot.
Plus riffs about O-bon holiday to celebrate ancestors, more about the book "Toot and Puddle" gifted from a friend from Boise via Utah, recent whole life story pod interview on Just Japan podcast, plus a montage of postal "Still Lifes" in situ and other tid-bits for fun while Clayton the Seabus busker plays The Replacements "Skyway" field recorded circa 2009.

On a ramble by train, by ship, by tuk-tukā¦ Was it the Himalayas? Arabia? The Mediterranean? or was it here in my backyard barn? The details donāt matter, the impact, Iām hearing myself remixed and floated back while I am wiped out in bed under a mosquito net ā is a uniquely powerful intrigue.

I brought back a colossal assortment of #vinyl from the āBC invasionā trip.
Stashes of new vinyl waiting for me in Vancouver & hidden in Burnaby, another batch of unique new slices shipped to a pal in Olympia, and a colossal cache left at a palās Dadās house in Salt Lake City in 1991 like a time capsule.
Now all in the home in my barn studio in provincial Japan. Each one has a back story.
Not sure how to begin. Hours of chitchat ahoy! Are you curious?

BC invasion update, x:
Changes in latitude, changes in attitude
Weāre in Metchosin (outside of Victoria) for a few days, including Ryokoās birthday.
We/I need a little rest up/reboot from the last few days so please be patient with us as we figure out how to connect at various parks and gardens and, as it goes sometimes with dogs.
Iām doing my best to get back to all messages but between #MECFS, a delightful active toddler, and trying not to look at the pocket robot to be present in the moment, Iām always behind as we are keeping up with pace thatās far beyond my usual capacity.
Iāll make the plans, I always do eventually.

+ Renegade Rambling in Japan +
Now that Japan's borders have "opened up" (sort of more or less), hearing from folks out in the wild who are planning to come so... wrangled my buddy Ted (an adventure, tour guide) into a storytime video in my kura barn in Okayama about rambling the archipelago // beyond Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka:

Consider sharing with any friends who are thinking on heading this way.
No edits, special effects, b-roll, but some old hitchhiking signs, various random digressions and groovy hats.
Question/comments welcome.

Was very pleased and grateful to participate in this poetry reading event as part of Word Vancouver for the Muriel's Journey poetry prize 2022 along with a group of very pleasing poets sharing works with honesty, grace and craft. You'll probably wanna watch it all but if you needed, my intro and rather short segment starts around 28 minute mark..
