In episode 1: July 22nd, 1946. The headquarters of the British Army in Palestine is located in the luxurious King David Hotel. Members of the Irgun, the Jewish resistance movement, smuggle milk churns packed with explosives into the hotel and hide them in the basement.
2. The Second World War Ep8 - Road To Ruin
As the war escalated, the toll on the civilian population of Germany grew heavier, with entire neighbourhoods obliterated and survivors forced to confront the grim realities of total war. For the first time, civilians were targeted as a strategy.

A painting by 17th- and 18th-century French artist Nicolas de Largillière (1656–1746), looted by the Nazis and recovered in the famous Monuments Men photo, went to auction at Christie’s Paris November 21 (any info on the sale I’ll share in the comments)

The work, titled Portrait d’une femme, à mi-corps, is one of three paintings seen in this historic April 1945 photo of the Monuments Men at Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle. James J. Rorimer, a museum curator-turned Army captain, is seen overseeing U.S. soldiers recovering a cache of 5,000 paintings and 20,000 other objects the Nazis had hidden at the site in Bavaria.

Addendum on Prince Eugene of Savoy and how a Frenchman ended up in the services of the Habsburg Empire: King Louis XIV denied him a commission to serve in the military because it was thought he was too short and scrawny. At least those were the reasons given. Needless to say, it pissed Eugene off so he fled France and entered the service of Holy Roman Empire's Emperor Leopold I, cousin and rival of Louis XIV. At 20, Prince Eugene of Savoy distinguished himself during the Ottomans Siege of Vienna in 1683, stopping an Ottoman conquest of Europe. His career was storied and his legacy is one of Europe's greatest military commanders.
