At times it seems our altruism is taken advantage of, and we are expected to be affable, able, and available at all times no matter what.

While I personally try to always be there for my patients, I also have to break away and live my life or there is no joy.

Finding the balance between living the dream as a doctor and dreaming to live the life I want with my family and friends can be very difficult to balance.

It is a balance I think I have always been aware of. I try to be there for my wife and my kids to share those special day to day moments.

Next time you see your healthcare friend tell them thank you. Because many live a very unbalanced medical life, and it can be very mentally taxing.
