HEADLINE NEWS From the Original Georgia Traveler
After literally 50 years of moving a mountain of boxes from one place to another the Traveler Series has a permanent home. The Walter J. Brown Media Archives at the University Georgia has established a special collection for the Tennessee Traveler, Georgia Traveler and Country Traveler stories. They will protect and preserve the materials so anyone can view them from here on. More details are coming so please stand by.
The Brown Media Archives houses the Peabody Awards Collection and is the third largest broadcasting archive in the country, after the Library of Congress and UCLA. Having them establish The Georgia Traveler special collection is a very big deal. Right now, they are making high-resolution copies of over 350 old 2-inch videotapes. As you can imagine this will take several months.
As soon as I can get my hands on the new video files, I’ll be posting them online. I hope you will be patient and help me by supporting the channel. There are 138 stories that you can explore and share with your family and friends. The more you watch, the more secure that channel will be. The people are amazing and the stories are all one-of-a-kind.
Meet amazing people and share their incredible stories and talents. The Original Georgia Traveler roamed the country and showcased the people of America.. These are the best of the best.
In the 1970s I had the best job in television. I traveled Georgia and the southeast for WSB-TV in Atlanta meeting people and sharing their amazing stories and talents. I was the original Georgia Traveler. Over that time we did over 1200 stories and sadly most of them have been lost. In 2018 I discovered boxes of ancient video tapes with over 100 stories. The stories are exactly as they were aired on Action News in the 1970s. You will be amazed by the unique story each person has to share. I plan to post as many of them as I can.
Just to keep the history straight, Before I came to WSB-tv I was the Tennessee Traveler for WLAC (now WTVF-TV) in Nashville. I discovered a few of those stories and I will be sharing them when I can.
