I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease at 17 years old, but my spine looked as though I was 40 years old. ๐ซฃ
After this diagnosis (along with stenosis, spondy, sciatica, and SI joint dysfunction), I went on a deep dive in order to heal my body, so I could get back to doing what I love, surfing. ๐
This dive even led me to my ๐ฅผ Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015, but that still didnโt heal my pain. It wasnโt until I stopped the causes of my pain and relearned a new relationship with my body, one that moves from my core, that I was able to live a normal life. โ
DDD is a common diagnosis for those with chronic lower back pain. DDD is defined as accelerated spine degeneration, resulting in disc thinning and loss of fluid, often influenced by lifestyle, posture, and muscular imbalances.
While this is a normal part of aging, a DDD diagnosis at a young age may indicate accelerated degeneration.
In the full video I further discuss the causes, what to avoid, if surgery is the answer, and the best way to heal from DDD.
