If your game trailer starts with a burst of noise and is first up on your (AUTOPLAYING) Steam page, I hope both sides of your pillow are warm and your shoelaces aren't quite even.
Nearly threw myself out of my damn chair ...

Hey all! Next video may be delayed slightly depending on how this cyclone goes for us - unfortunately, we're going to be taking a direct hit. Really hoping we don't lose power but we'll see what happens 🤷

While I think day/night cycles definitely have their place in games, I'm not 100% sold it's in management sims or city builders IF the night cycle requires all workers to stop what they're doing.
This creates a lull in the gameplay loop and a natural exit point for the gamer. It's really disengaging to suddenly have no control over the game.
I find myself really frustrated when I manage to get into the flow of a game, but it's then constantly disrupted by all workers putting their tools down for 2-3 irl minutes.
If you're going to create this deadspace, give us something to fill it - management mini games, paperwork, whatever.
Otherwise, you've given me a really obvious point to save and exit - usually with more than a crumb of frustration because I can't keep things moving - which means I'm less likely to reopen the game.
What do you guys reckon?

Hey there! I'm Renee, or Ren. I've loved strategy games ever since I pulled an Age of Empires demo CD from a Nutrigrain box, and now make my living playing them. I host Strategy Game News, a monthly debrief on what's happening in the world of strategy games, as well as Let's Plays, First Look Ats, and challenge videos!
I also run a small book publishing company in Brisbane, Australia. Check out SkyNation Publishing if you're a sci-fi/fantasy reader! Feel free to put your feet up, binge a playlist, and find your next favourite game.
Strategy Game News comes out on the Saturday closest to the 1st of the month.
