The artistic collective Queendom was established in 1999. Now, almost two decades later, Queens Asta Busingye and Monica Ifejilika are reintroducing the concept as a purely musical endeavor. They call themselves 'Afropean' and their genre 'Africana', because the sound of Queendom is a musical blend, mixing elements from the African continent with European and American styles. Lyrically, the Norwegian/Ugandan/Nigerian duo are uncompromising as they reshape and restructure their message from young rebel queens to grown women, who are now both mothers and queens.
