The mipmap textures used on the “Monoliths” or “Towers” seen on the PlayStation 2’s startup screen
From my observation, the bottom right is used from far away before the “Sony Computer Entertainment” text fades in.
Top right is used after the text fades out as the camera zooms to the middle of the screen and before the zoom in transition, the larger left texture is used.

Top: Proto, a still background of the PlayStation 2 TOOL Development Kit’s Network Information Screen. Created sometime in 1999
Bottom: Retail Startup Screen from SCPH-10000 BIOS v1.00
Created in January of 2000.
The units that were demonstrated at Tokyo Game Show 1999 Autumn for PlayStation 2’s unveiling may had a early version of the System Bios that is not seen at all. It could be that they were just for show and only TOOL dev kits ran software to the displays. Very possible those units were scrapped a long time ago.

PlayStation Festival 2000 - Take a closer look at the monitors. The PlayStation 2 demo units are idling on their system menu!

This was February of 2000 so it’s a very good chance the BIOS running on the demo units at the festival is the exact same as the SCPH-10000 retail bios and also that is made available online.
The build date for BIOS v1.00 is 17/01/2000 (January 17, 2000)
