My 80 foot high cordon trellis is busting at the seams with muscadine grapes this year. Growing your own food even a portion of it is a great feeling. Knowing it's free of chemicals and artificial mess is peace of mind.

Regular checks and maintenance on your emergency equipment is important. If you dont check your emergency equipment regularly, how do you know it's going to work. I run my generators for 30 minutes under load every month. Doing this allows you to stay familiar with your equipment, check for issues, and fix problems you find. Trying to fix a problem with your equipment during an emergency might not be possible. But, finding and fixing an issue when there is no emergency is a lot easier.

Having the knowledge and ability to produce your own food is an important skill. Not just being able to have food during an emergency, but knowing where your food came from and how it was grown. Knowing your food wasn't drenched in chemicals or fertilizers is a great feeling. The ability not to have to rely on others for all your needs is critical to self-preservation.
