I can’t believe I used to think the sun caused cancer, raw milk was dangerous, eating meat was unhealthy, tap water was safe to drink, elections mattered, and that dinosaurs existed.

I’m so happy I broke free of my slave chains.

Have you?

Why bees on the homesteadšŸā¬‡ļø

Spring is on the horizon, and my bees are buzzing about the yard which brings so much joy to my heart!

My first year of bee-keeping, I started off with two hives. Only one made it through the first winter. My second year, I expanded to four hives and found this to be a perfect fit for my homestead. A manageable amount of work for an abundant return of resources.

My bees pollinate my garden, supply me with honey, and provide different products I use for medicinal and prepping purposes. My garden was the most prominent it had ever been with the four hives buzzing about. I keep them housed next to my garden for the purpose of pollination.

My bees give me honey, beeswax, propolis, pollen, and bee venom (yes, venom!)

Honey is a nutrient-dense food that is loaded with antioxidants. It can be used for coughs, sore throats, and to treat wounds. I use it in my food storage for a supply of sugar.

Beeswax is used on my homestead primarily for the use of making candles and skincare products. I collect wax through the season during hive checks then when I go to collect honey.

Propolis is like a glue-like sticky substance that bees use to seal their hives. Different from wax, but I also collect it during hive checks and take it as a supplement because it supports immune function.

Bee venom can be medicinal, so whenever I get stung by me bees (a few times in the season) I look at it as a benefit to my body. I do have a minor allergy, so I take it in strides and I am grateful for what they give.

I am excited this year because it appears as if all four of my hives survived the winter, even with temperatures falling below zero and sporadic harsh winds, they have made it! My hive from the first year is still going strong as well.

How do you keep bees over winter?

I wrap my hives in roofing paper and hive insulators. I also have some techniques that I employ to keep the moisture out of the hives, moisture means trouble. This year was an absolutely success and I am grateful for that!

Looking forward to sharing more bee-keeping moments with you šŸ’›šŸ

I can’t believe I used to think eating meat was unhealthy, sunscreen was necessary, raw milk was dangerous, public school was needed for child socialization, the news reported events accurately, and that we lived on a floating rock.

I’m so happy I woke up to reality lol

I went from being vegetarian, drinking almond milk, dyeing my hair, and having a 10-step toxic skincare routine to eating beef liver, milking my own goats for raw milk, regrowing my natural hair, and using only beef tallow on my skin.

I haven't felt this good in my entire life.

Spending time in the garden while sunshine coats my skin is pure bliss.

No pesticides. No sunscreen. No poison of any sort.

Just me and nature.

Did you get your sunshine today?

Most girls my age spend their weekends getting drunk and chasing bottom of the barrel men.

I spend mine building goat stanchions.

I wouldn’t change a thing.

Bee day here on the homestead!
I received my package of bees and placed them into their new home (the hive in the background.) Vlog coming soon!

I love bees so much!

Would a bee on your face bug you?

How many new bee hives should I get this year?

Gathered dead bees from my beehive entrance today to give to my chickens as a treat.

Bees die, chickens eat them, and I eat the nutrient dense chicken eggs.

I think if more people took the time to see nature’s cycle of our food, they wouldn’t be so opposed to animal products.
