Derby Then and now : Curzon street, Wardwick from the air 1947 to 2025
One of my most challenging "then and nows" ever, trying to line up longitude, latitude, Altitude, Vertical camera angle, Rotation, Lens size, focal depth and aspect ratio, pixel matching spread with the original photo was a very time consuming process so I was very pleased to see how it turned out. watch video on watch page

Yet another Derby listed building that needs a lot of TLC, It’s located at Number 2 Becket Street, This is exactly opposite the 1871 building (former Derby education department offices later was Berlins nightclub) It was built as an annexe to that building in 1892. watch video on watch page

Today I captured the moment that the Derby Hippodrome Theatre was Demolished. I have uploaded a total of 10 videos, 7 shorts, one of drone footage before they started the demolition, one of my footage shot from ground level and finally my drone footage of the demolition. do check them all out.
Its very sad to see it go. watch video on watch page

2025 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway, Railway200 is a celebration of this and will be celebrated with events around the UK, Derby has a long history with the railways and will be celebrated at Alstom at their Derby Litchurch Lane Works by "The greatest gathering" 1-3rd August 2025.

Derby Carriage and Wagon Works started producing rolling stock in 1840 for the Midland Railway who owned the works. In 1970 it became British Rail Engineering Ltd, 1992 became ABB, in 1996 Adtranz then in 2001 Bomardier Transportation and finally in 2021 became Alstom
To celebrate this I thought you may like to see my cinefilm footage from the 1960s of Derby carriage and wagon works.
This video features a collection of clips of Derby Carriage and Wagon Works which I was kindly given by local Derby film maker Arthur Blood. Arthur captured many local events of the time, mostly relating to the Derby Carriage and Wagon Works where he worked. I would also like to thank Neil Johnson for putting me in touch with him. watch video on watch page

Do you remember 15 years ago before Derby inner ring road was completed?
I have got dashcam footage from way back in July 2009 and thought it would be worth revisiting it now, so much has changed on this route.

This video shows a trip around Derby's Inner ring Road in July 2009, a few months after this the route changed as the final section of the ring road was completed, connecting Stafford Street with the top of Bradshaw Way. Those two final sections were named Lara Croft Way and Mercian Way. watch video on watch page

Have you seen my latest Hull Time Traveller series video, in this one I'm standing slightly in the road on Chanterlands Avenue outside Piccolo Italian Bistro and the Pharmacy and the No 3/18 Bus stop "Lynton Avenue" looking north towards the railway bridge in the distance.
Shops you can see on the left side in the 2024 view are Fly-Away rugs,?, Higson Homes, Powder Room and Bengal Pride.

I'm really pleased with this one as its a tricky one to create as its taken in the road and I've got a lot of stuff to try and line up but I seem to have got it perfect allowing you to see all the tiny details that have changed in 94 years.

Things of interest I've spotted in my video, you may need to view on a large screen (Smart TV) rather than a phone to see these :
● A very obvious change is the change in transportation, in the 1930s view there are three people on bikes, a horse and cart on the left in the distance and a lovely Electric Tram travelling south heading towards Spring Bank, where as in the 2024 view I'm standing in the Bus Stop and there are a lot of cars about even though I took my view at 7:25am
● Middle right side of both views you can clearly see that that large tree on the corner of Westbourne Avenue is the very same tree in the 1930 view!
● On the very far right of the 1930 view there is a clear area to the side of that house (Lilly-Rose Florist in the 2024 view), The Avenue public house was built shortly after this photograph on this land and opened in 1933.
● Notice how all the lovely ornate iron railings outside all the properties on the left and the other side of Chanterlands Ave vanish, of course these would have been removed for the war efforts in 1939.
● Have you spotted the lovely old car just emerging from Lynton Avenue.
● All of the young trees on the left going down Chanterlands Avenue look like they have been replaced since the 1930s view, looks like new ones were planted maybe in the 1980s?
● In the 1930's view the three properties on the far left all have bay windows, notice how the middle one has vanished in the 2024 view.

In 1915 Chanterlands Avenue was a lot shorter than it is today, it only used to run from Spring Bank to Perth Street. It was then extended all the way to Cottingham Road, The Avenues were all built too.
Chanterlands Avenue was built on land that used to be a Polo Ground. watch video on watch page

I make a lot of high accuracy fading β€œthen and now” videos and in my latest one I have taken it up to the next level and used my drone to make a Time traveller video.

The great thing about using the drone for these is that it gives context of the location as there are not going to be many people alive that remember the old view as its changed so much in those 61 years.

Extremely happy with how this came out, Ive got several more of these to edit together. Have a look and see if you like it. watch video on watch page
