Good morning from Somerset!
Well, sharing some flowery photos this morning because after a night of heavy rain, it is grey, cold and windy in Somerset today and it feels like things need brightening up! Hopefully it won't be long before we are seeing blooms like this in our gardens and on our farms (depending where in the world you are.) Of course, by the end of the week there will be enough daylight hours to start sowing seeds - so it feels like the season is about to really get going here in the UK and hopefully in other parts of the Northern Hemisphere too.
So, what am I up to this week?
Tuesday 11th - it's my flower farming year workshops. If you can join me for this session (or if you can't join live book a place and we send you the recording) then by the end of it I will have helped you organise yourself so you can have a fantastic season full of flowers (and you will be organised through the winter months too!)
Wednesday 12th - I am looking forward to a 1-1 mentoring session, with a fairly local to me flower farmer. These sessions can be held online (and indeed, I've had international mentees!) but on this occasion I am able to go and do the session face to face. I have very limited spaces for 1-1 sessions - do get in touch if this is something you are interested in and the dates we have available don't quite suit.
Wednesday 12th - ahead of starting seed sowing at the end of the week, I have my online seed sowing demo at 5pm (GMT). Sign up and hear all my tips, tricks and advice for seed sowing to ensure you have enough (but not too many) cut flowers for the season ahead, whether you grow for profit or pleasure.
Thursday 13th - I've a Live At Five Q&A session over on Substack for those paid members over there, again on the topic of seed sowing. Do join us if you can - binge any content you want to here on YouTube then leave the club here and rejoin on Substack where you will get all the same benefits (and slightly more) for a few £ or $ less a month. Of course, you might just like to come to Susbtack for free too - find me here substack.com/@commonfarmflowers
All the details of online sessions this week and for the rest of the year are over on my website:

Have a great week everyone

Hello YouTube and Clubbers
I just thought it worth sharing an update with you all as we gradually shift our Common Farm Flowers Club from YouTube to Substack. Please don't think this means the free content on YouTube will stop - we have every intention of still being here in that way! And elements of the Club will remain here for a while, but as clubbers are aware - our Live At Five sessions will continue over on Substack now.
What this means for existing clubbers is that they can stay here and binge any of the Live At Five club sessions they want to catch up on. Then, if they wish to, membership can be moved over to Substack. This is a fairly simple process but if you need any help at all please email nicola@commonfarmflowers.com and she can guide you through any hiccups.
YouTube has served us very well for the club but we have found with Substack a few extra benefits - more opportunity for writing (and written posts can be downloaded as podcasts too, which people are loving!), a chat group for members that any clubber can start a thread on if they have questions they'd like to ask or want to seek advice / views from the club, and it is also working out somewhat cheaper for members too.
For those of you not yet in the club who are intrigued to know more, here's some information that might encourage you to join us.
Who is the club for?
The club is open to anyone, whether you grow flowers, shrubs and perennials for profit or whether you are growing flowers for pleasure. You might not fit into either of those categories - but simply be interested in how we run our business, or in joining in our chat. There are many different people here, from all around the world and everyone is welcome. Some weeks our Live Q&A sessions might have a very flower farm kind of focus, other weeks they will suit anyone who is interested in learning more about sowing and growing flowers. Some weeks they’ll be well suited to anyone running a small business - and once a term we have a session talking about books we’ve read, as well as a chat making sure we’re all looking after our physical and mental health.
What is the commitment to the club?
Membership of the club can be paid monthly or annually, entirely up to you, but we’ve set the cost of joining at a point that we hope it’s something many of you can enjoy. You can un-join at any time, of course.
By joining the club, you will get:
An exclusive club discount
Enjoy 10% members discounts on our workshops, demos and other products available on our website.
Members-only live Q&A sessions
Members can join regular Live At Five sessions, which are hosted on Substack most weeks in term time (so around 30 sessions a year). Topics are suggested by club members and each week I invite all clubbers to send in any questions on the topic, which I answer during the live chat. There’s plenty of lively (text) discussion during, and we share the recorded live session afterwards, with a summary of useful tips from the chat for those of you who can’t join live.
Exclusive behind the scenes videos
Members only videos of life on our flower farm in Somerset, as well as sharing of more detailed information about running the flower farm.
Clubbers chat group
Here you can join in with the Chat as and when you fancy! This is a place where all clubbers are welcome to share news, views and ask questions - without me needing to always be there to host or support. But I do pop in with occasional recipes, thoughts and questions too!
More news, in different formats
We’ll share regular members only updates on Substack, which you can read or listen to as a podcast (very excited about this aspect and know lots of clubbers are already making the most of being able to listen, as well as to read, our updates.)
Fancy joining us?
If you want to join the club you simply need to opt in to be a paid subscriber on Substack. We’d love to have you!
And, of course, if you decide not to join the club, you will still get lots of free content (either on Substack or here on YouTube), updates about what’s happening at the farm, video clips, newsletters (Substack only) and so on. And you are still very welcome here!
If you’ve any questions about the club or Substack in general do let us know - and we’ll be happy to help.
Find us for free on Substack here (and the option to join as a paid member should pop up for you here too)

Hello YouTubers!
Later this evening, a clip will be available chatting about why we are moving the Club over to Substack. I hope you can find a few minutes to watch it and hopefully understand why we are gradually making this shift.
A few people have asked for some help with becoming a paid up member of Substack so we've tried to put together a series of images and these instructions, which we really hope will help. But if they don't or if you have any questions about the transition, please please let us know and we will do our best to help.
First of all sign up for Substack, if you haven't already.
Once you've signed up for Substack, search for Georgie Newbery and you can subscribe to the channel for free.
If you'd like to join the club, there are different ways to do it. First of all, make sure you are looking via a web browser and not via the Substack app.
Then you'll be offered different ways to sign up as paid member - for example, as shown here, you can either click 'subscribe' or you might see a nudge to 'upgrade to watch'.
Once you click 'subscribe' or 'upgrade to watch' you will see a page shown here with the title 'The Common Farm Flowers Club by Georgie Newbery', which shows you that you are a free subscriber.
Look over to the right for the orange box, called 'upgrade to paid' and you click that to go through to the different paid options for the Common Farm Flowers Club.
You then land on the page where you choose your subscription plan. If you decide not to join the club, click the right hand side to stay with free option. If you want to join, choose which option you prefer (£7 a month - this will rise in the near future - or £65 for the full year. (There are options in settings to change your currency if you wish to.)
Select whichever you prefer and click through to payment page.
Hopefully the images shared her will help a bit!

We are flower farmers and florists based between Bruton and Wincanton in Somerset. We create hand tied bouquets which are available for local collection or delivery to BA (UK) postcodes, do fabulous flowers for weddings and events, and teach masses of workshops - both online and face to face at Common Farm.
The point of my YouTube channel is to inspire and enable people to grow flowers and arrange with them for the sake of their environment, their creative mental health, and often to help them make a living.
Order all British flowers from us at www.commonfarmflowers.com, book a place on a workshop or garden tour, or enquire about wedding or event flowers. We only ever use grown not flown British flowers in our floristry, and our plot, seen here, is held as a haven for wildlife as well as worked as a flower farm.
Subscribe to our channel for top gardening tips, reminders of jobs to do in the gardening year, and styling tips for house and garden.
