Our mission: reverse engineering the brain to understand the mind. The MIT Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences is a unique community of neuroscientists who study the brain with many different approaches. Molecular, cellular, systems, cognitive, and computational techniques are all employed by our researchers, often in innovative combinations through new collaborations.
BCS is housed in Building 46 on the MIT campus, which is also home to the McGovern Institute for Brain Research; Picower Institute for Learning and Memory; Center for Brains, Minds, and Machines; and Simons Center for the Social Brain, all of whose faculty also hold academic positions in BCS.
