If there’s one thing I like about myself, it’s not my eyes or the birthmark under my eyebrows. Not my lips nor the way I smile with my gums exposed. Not my height that isn’t average but isn’t that impressive either. Not my voice that sounds strong enough for people to take seriously, nor my fingers that are long but get numb under tolerable cold. If there’s one thing I like most about myself, it’s not the way I look—but the way I am.
If there’s one thing I like most about myself, it’s the way I look at life straight in the eye and never flinch. How despite the long and rocky road I’ve walked and stumbled upon, I still have the courage to pick myself up and draw my sword for another fight. How I can still give my 100% best despite all the setbacks. How no matter how many times people and life tried to dry up my hope, I still manage to keep some in my pocket.
I admit, with all my scars and these hollow eyes, I’m not really a pretty person. But dear I am brave. And that, for me, is real beauty.
