Excellent map showing the state of the Iberian Peninsula in 1094, the year of El Cid's greatest triumph when he conquered Valencia. This map doesn't distinguish the various Christian kingdoms, but it does demonstrate the scope of El Cid's achievement. He'd basically established a small but powerful Christian outpost on the eastern coast. This was in part possible because his policies had pacified the Emir of Zaragoza and kept that region neutral to the King of Leon-Castile. The Almoravids, at this point, basically controlled everything in purple, essentially establishing a new Muslim empire in extension to their massive North African domains. That El Cid defeated the Almoravids utterly, and entirely shattered every attempt they made to reverse his conquests is a testament to his greatness.

A few people have messaged me about the music used in my videos. Most of it is original music I create for my project Roman Lion. You can find a lot of the soundtrack for RCH on the Roman Lion channel:

Wishing everyone a very happy Sedantag!
Today, in 1870, the North German Confederation won a glorious victory over Napoleon III's France at the epic Battle of Sedan. This victory would result in the surrender and abdication of the French emperor and lead to the formation of the German Empire.
