Howdy! A few days back, I published an extensive video on Lethal Company. Views on it have been fairly lackluster—which was to be expected, given this channel is (for now) a TF2 channel that primarily does TF2 content—but a couple people said they were subscribed and didn't get an announcement for it, so I figured I'd try putting it out there in the form of a community post. The video's a much higher-quality piece of work than my usual stuff, including an increased runtime, far denser editing, a proper intro, and an excellently done thumbnail, so if you're at all curious I'd appreciate if you gave it a chance. If not, fair enough; this post is just here for the folks who missed the announcement. Thanks again for being here, and have a good one. :)

Alright, here’s that legally obligated holiday post. I’m curious. Since everyone watching this channel is American without exceptions, favorite Thanksgiving food choice? Comment if yours isn’t represented because I’m a self-centered douchebag and only put what I think the big 5 are. :)

So, I've gotten into a debate with a friend of mine, and it's a fiery one I want y'all's thoughts on. I'm convinced he's wrong, and he's convinced I'm wrong, and I'm convinced the data will back me up if I make it a general poll. Here's the big question: *When someone insults you in a game after beating you, does that encourage you to play better, does it discourage you from playing, or does it not affect you at all?*

Specifically, this argument goes after the philosophy of what it means when you say "ez" in chat. It's a habit of a lot of the more tryhardy folks to say "ez" after a game ends or after killing someone, but those are two different circumstances. If you say "ez" after a game, it reflects across both teams involved, not across two individuals. So let's focus in on the argument we're using for this case on the basis of individuals.

What this friend of mine said in this case is that when someone says "ez" in chat after killing him, it motivates him to play better. Saying "ez" is a way of showing that the other person needs to play better and any anger that causes contributes to the fun of the game because playing better means you're having more fun. That, and being on top so you have the right to say "ez" in the first place is its own type of satisfying fun and should be encouraged as a core tenant of gaming culture.

What I said in this case is that when someone says "ez" in chat after killing him, it discourages the freshly-killed player from playing the game. For me at least, I find games the most fun when I'm either doing well or when I'm having enough of a challenge to feel that I'm doing my best, so I'm similar to the tryhard's mindset in that case, but I also recognize that when you say "ez" to an individual after killing them, that insults the individual's skill and they might internalize that. When you say "ez," the person you're saying it to can either take it to mean "this person is better than me" (which would be a harmless brag) *or* they could take it to mean "I am worse than this person" (which counts as a directed insult meant to put them down). Now, for some people, they'll take the first meaning or they won't care in the first place, so that's fine for them. But as a general rule of thumb, the risk that someone will be made significantly worse off in terms of fun and improvement by you insulting them by calling them an "ez" kill is enough that I don't like the idea of doing it and won't do it unless it's to rub someone's face in it who said something similar to me already. Or if it's the friend in question. Then it's VERY funny.

So, whatch'all think? I like talking about the philosophy of gaming ideas, and respect vs. pride in gaming culture is an interesting topic I don't often see get brought up. If you read this far, thanks for stopping by, btw. :)

Huh, haven't made a community post. Last one was 6 months ago reposting gregregation. ANYWHO, a year or so I wrote a trio of SciFi short stories and published them on my website. Obviously not many people read them because reading takes time. But if you're interested, I narrated one of them and threw it up on the second channel. I'm not a good narrator, but I gave it my best shot. Give it a listen if you're interested, and if not, thanks for being here. College is being a bastard and it's hard to find time to do stuff on my own when I'm too busy stressing about the arbitrary workload of statistics, but eh, it is what it is. Enjoy. :)

Bad news.

So, y'know how Team Fortress 2 had a blog post for the first time in years the other day, announcing a new update this Summer?
Y'know how everyone's been hyping it up to no end over the last few days because FINALLY it seems like there's a future for the game with actual content?
Y'know how they used the phrasing "Update-Sized Update" in regards to their plans for it?
I don't know about anyone else, but when they said that I made the assumption that "update-sized update" meant the possibility of new weapons, among other stuff; the weapons being the thing I've wanted for the longest time.
Well, bad news.

They went back and changed the phrasing of it from "Update-Sized Update" to "Holiday-Sized Update."

Yeah.
What does this mean?
It means there'll still be an update—it's far too late for them to back down on that, though it wouldn't surprise me that much if they still tried—but they're trying to severely lessen our expectations.

What does this really mean?
It means probably 4-8 new maps, a new crate, new taunts, and new unusual effects.
Almost definitely no new weapons.
Probably no new gamemodes, though with V-Script that could change.
And no real significant changes.

So...
._.

‪@Valve‬ ‪@teamfortress‬, changing the phrasing of something YOU KNEW would get people's hopes up simply because you don't want to put in the microscopic effort of integrating a few new weapons alongside the basic act of copy/pasting maps and crates for profit is disappointing, especially considering the change was made silently. Y'all made 13 BILLION in revenue last year. There's PLENTY of people in the community who want to work on TF2. Just hire a few people whose sole jobs it would be to manage the process of copy/pasting stuff into the game and that would be good enough.

I would thank ‪@RubberMango‬ for bringing this to my attention, but I wish he hadn't and he's a bastard.

There's a decent chance this will be the year I try to back out and go into variety content, regardless of the risk. If TF2's team is willing to go back on their word to lower expectations after everyone's gotten their hopes up? All I'm saying is trying to be a Payday 3 YouTuber would probably get more consistent updates. ‪@PAYDAYGame‬, hi there. :)

Sorry for making your day/night a little worse, but eh. I love this game and Valve was honest when they said they did too. I'm too tired to be optimistic for now.

Howdy. I know there's not much crossover between my normal community (Team Fortress 2) and Hearts of Iron 4, so if you don't know what that is, feel free to discard this post and move on. If for some reason I have your interest, me and a friend (DoctorEntropy#7266) have spent the last four months working on a submod for the mod "Old World Blues," which basically overhauls HOI4's World War 2 simulator into a New Vegas-focused Fallout simulator. While I wouldn't recommend getting into HOI4, Old World Blues is a very fun overhaul mod and is the only reason I even play the game, and I wanted to contribute back to that. If you've read any of my short stories, you'll know I enjoy writing, and I did all the writing and design for this submod, with Doc doing the coding and implementation. Give it a try if you're in that very, very, very specific niche already, and if not, just know this is what I've spent the last four months doing. Thanks again for sticking around, and I'll have an upload done in a day or two. Cheers. ☢️

Merry Christmas! Quick poll for the heck of it, how y’all feel about Wutville? Just curious. Enjoy a day of lazying around not doing much. :)

Also, to celebrate, Wutville will be the main and only map on my Stupid Server for the rest of the day to encourage you to do real life stuff instead. Yay! :))

Happy Thanksgiving!
To celebrate, instead of giving thanks for what we've been so luckily given and for surviving another year in an increasingly harsh world, how about everyone debates on the best type of Pie and literally kills each other in the comments over it?
That sounds fun.
Enjoy your feasts! :)
