As parents we need to understand, that constant correction can stifle curiosity and lead to self-doubt. While it's important to guide, it's equally crucial to foster independence. By applying the Pareto Principle, parents can focus on essential corrections, allowing for natural exploration.

The connection can be built in various ways by
◆Having their favourite conversation,
◆Play outdoor games or do physical activities
◆Read the stories
◆Doing household chores together
◆Sharing different points of view
◆Going on family trips
◆Practice mindfulness or meditation together
◆Work on projects together (gardening, scrapbooks)
And much more....

Today, I’m delighted to see our research gaining further recognition, with an article written by Niyati Rana in the Ahmedabad Mirror highlighting the findings of our research paper published in the Indian Journal of Community Medicine. The article emphasises the pressing need to address childhood trauma as one of the significant root causes of mental health issues.

This accomplishment reflects the hard work of our whole team at Wellness Space under the guidance of Dr. Gunjan Y. Trivedi. I urge everyone to take some time to review our research paper via the link below. journals.lww.com/ijcm/fulltext/9900/association_be…

On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, we are happy to share our contribution to this field by focusing on Childhood Trauma, Anxiety and Depression. We have published our findings in the Indian Journal of Community Medicine. Trapped Inner Child? New Findings on Childhood Trauma, Depression, and Anxiety in India The study was conducted at Wellness Space, Ahmedabad, and discovered a strong association between childhood trauma and internalising symptoms (specifically depression and anxiety). The impact of Childhood Trauma can be addressed by focusing effectively on raising children by providing -early interventions -establishing support systems Additionally, it can be done through therapies like Inner Child or Inner Child Integration Techniques.

How do our childhood experiences determine our parenting approaches?

Childhood is a time filled with a wide range of experiences that shape who we are from ages 0 to 18. Unfortunately, some individuals may have faced difficult challenges, such as witnessing domestic violence, experiencing emotional abuse or neglect, or dealing with family members' addiction or divorce. These experiences are known as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Children who grow up with high levels of childhood traumas can be highly dysregulated as adults, prone to impulsive and irrational behaviours, violent outbursts, emotionally shut down or socially withdrawn, prone to depression, anxiety, addictions or high-risk behaviours and can have chronic health conditions as well. When they become parents, these trauma outcomes continue to affect their parenting experiences unless they mindfully work on correcting them and healing their own trauma baggage.

Common parenting challenges parents with high childhood trauma:
🛑Dysregulated nervous system that is responsible for violent and impulsive behaviours and easily triggered reactions leading to domestic violence or marital issues.
🛑Emotional numbing that makes them incapable of understanding and responding to the child's emotional needs.
🛑 Difficulty in adopting the Authoritative (balanced) parenting styles and swinging to the more polarised Permissive, Negligent or Authoritarian parenting styles, which are not healthy for the child.
🛑Inability to follow positive parenting guidelines despite knowing it all - because trauma response hijacks all logic and rationale when they are triggered.
🛑Struggling with their own mental and physical health challenges coming from ACE (depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic health conditions) that make them physically and emotionally unavailable for the child's needs.

Things that parents can do -
➡️Identify and acknowledge your trauma
➡️Work on self-regulation or seek therapy if needed
➡️Normalise mental health conversations with your children
