Hokkien KunTao Mantis UK
KunTao Mantis was founded in London early 1978 by Gerry Tann, an Indonesian from Sumatra. It consists of two branches, KunTao and Northern Praying Mantis Fist
Hokkien KunTao Mantis UK blends two distinct martial arts traditions: Kun Tao and Northern Praying Mantis, both rooted in Chinese martial arts philosophy. Our Northern Mantis lineage comes from Hwang Tjin Hong, taught by Lo-Gwang-Yu, focusing on internal and external energy, fighting strategies, and health. Students start with Tan Tui forms, progressing to advanced Mantis techniques.
Kun Tao was introduced to Indonesia by Taoist Priest Lim Beng Wan in the early 1900s. He trained three disciples: Bok Chin, Tan Tong Liong, and Chen Tai Ping. This system, known as 18 Chah Peh Poh, features 18 dynamic forms, each tailored to different combat scenarios, offering a comprehensive and fluid martial arts practice.
