I got a new demo for class. It's a calcium carbide miner's lamp. It's been burning for several hours with just about 10 grams of calcium carbide. The calcium carbide reacts with water to produce a steady stream of acetylene, which burns with a bright flame.

My students are doing their first titration. After they started getting results, I showed them some titration memes to let them know they aren't alone.

This video from ‪@3blue1brown‬ is a very thought-provoking look into polarimetry. I recommend it for organic chemistry students to gain a better understanding of polarimetry. I recommend it for everyone else because it's very cool.
