I got a new demo for class. It's a calcium carbide miner's lamp. It's been burning for several hours with just about 10 grams of calcium carbide. The calcium carbide reacts with water to produce a steady stream of acetylene, which burns with a bright flame.

My students are doing their first titration. After they started getting results, I showed them some titration memes to let them know they aren't alone.

This video from @3blue1brown is a very thought-provoking look into polarimetry. I recommend it for organic chemistry students to gain a better understanding of polarimetry. I recommend it for everyone else because it's very cool.

I'm a Chemistry professor at a community college in the Dallas area. I post my lecture videos to help those who might be taking general and organic chemistry courses. My interests include education, technology, 3D printing, energy policy, and various other things. I like to invent things to help promote better understanding of chemistry and chemical concepts.
