The Pelvic Partnership consists of volunteers who have or have had personal experience of pregnancy - related Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP). Our aim is to support and provide information to women with PGP and healthcare professionals raising awareness that it is a bio-mechanical (not hormonal) problem which responds well to manual therapy treatment.
PGP, formerly known as Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), affects up to 1 in 5 women and causes pain in and around the pelvic joints and lower back and can impact on walking, climbing stairs and other activities that most people take for granted. Most women with PGP respond well to treatment from a 'hands on' manual therapist (physiotherapist, osteopath or chiropractor) but this is often not offered as a treatment option. The Pelvic Partnership is helping to change this and ensure that women receive the correct treatment as soon as their symptoms start. For more information please visit www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk.
