Dull Locksmiths Club Post
So back when these were in production it appears there was an inconsistency with the packaging. This leads me to wonder was it just willie nillie when it came to how they ended up facing? Was there a change mid production in the facing of it for a reason?
I’m imaging a row of ladies in smocks, hair pulled back laying these out on their respective lines right before it gets shrink wrapped & there is that ONE employee who is secretly pissed about something and thinks to themselves “I’ll get these b*tches back, THIS lock is getting placed upside down HAHA! *evil chuckle
anyway, check out these fellas. I can’t bring myself to do anything but seal them up in plastic bags for preservation…lock history and all 🤷♂️

Installing a ALX by Schlage (which I never do, I actually hate them as locks) and got furious cause the interior button was recessed in the Sparta lever and I thought they had sent wrong lever in the box. I was mentally getting prepared to blast my distributor, rail against Allegion QC everywhere, and storm around in anger for the rest of the day and then I decided to read the directions 😏

I’ve been wanting to apply “sudden horizontal force” to one of these things Level Locks for a while now 😏
The former owner said “Do it! It’s been a trash lock since I got it” 😬😏

History Time!
Back in the “day” Kwikset was part of the Emhart group and made some pretty heavy duty deadbolts. Some of y’all I’m sure have run across them, they have so many rings and plates and shields and more plates for the plates it’s actually kinda funny.
This was also the time period where they came out with the “true” 6 pin variant which wasn’t popular at all and ended up being the precursor for Titan which as we know from RLS Series is a 6 pin variant but instead of at the end of the key (making the key longer and unable to work in most of their other lines) they squeezed it up at the shoulder and knocked back the bottom shoulder resulting in keys that could work both 5 & 6 pin locks (but funnily enough you would still have to drop a pin in their “true” 6 pin line)
Here we also have an attempt at a “safe” double cylinder deadbolt dubbed the Safe-T-Lok which basically keeps you from removing the key if it’s locked 😏 like I said…an attempt lol
Have you ever run across one of those still in operation and it threw you for a loop?
