Hurricane Erin is still going through an eyewall replacement cycle this morning. The storm has temporarily weakened to a Category 3 hurricane with winds near 125 mph. This process often allows the storm to expand and then strengthen again once the new eyewall forms.

π¨ TROPICAL STORM ERIN HAS FORMED π¨
Just hours after our earlier update, the system we were tracking in the eastern Atlantic has strengthened and been officially named Tropical Storm Erin.
Erin currently has maximum sustained winds near 45 mph and is moving west to west-northwest at around 20 mph. Forecasts call for gradual strengthening over the next several days as it moves across very warm waters with low wind shear. Some projections indicate it could become the first hurricane of the season later this week.
At this time Erin is far from land and there are no immediate threats to the U.S. coast. However, interests in the Lesser Antilles and across the central Atlantic should be monitoring updates closely as the track and intensity forecasts are refined.
