Given the news today, I am going to start using Bluesky as an alternative to Twitter. Give me a follow there, and comment your Bluesky names too. I've gotten tired of Elon's ownership of the site, especially with the large amount of bots, and I know it's going to only grow more insufferable. I believe we need to start a movement to start using Bluesky, especially for the OSC.
Even after being active on it for 8 years, I never felt I was attached to Twitter unlike other sites, I felt like I'm just a person who happened to use it. You can see this with how rarely I tweet on my own profile. I tried to tolerate it after Elon's acquisition, but with him constantly making bad decisions, I can't tolerate it any longer. The amount of bots and hate speech on this site has made me have to mute several times a day, when it used to be none.
I'm also tired of the AI art posting, I believe AI art is plagiarism and looks horrifically unnatural. It directly harms artists from stealing their work and taking their jobs, and I don't know a single artist who supports it. AI art is an insult to life itself and I will not hesitate to mute people who use it.
To be honest, I'm undecided if I'll stop using Twitter. With the amount of friends I've made, and the artists and fandoms I follow here, that's going to be hard to say goodbye to. I will likely only be putting my major announcements and projects on my profile now. Who knows, if enough people migrate and the site gets even worse, I could quit for good.
I'll say it again, I want everyone to know, if you need words of comfort, we survived 4 years before, and we can survive another 4. Continue to vote in multiple elections a year, there are state and local elections that need your vote. We must carry on and survive together.
