Rey Pila formed in Mexico City in 2010 â their name means King Battery in Spanish. The quartet specializes in synth-driven dance-rock â NME says they âsound like they were raised on a diet of The Cars, David Bowie and Kraftwerk.â
In 2012 they relocated to NYC and started work on their second album. Julian Casablancas discovered their song âAlexanderâ, signed them to his label and co-produced 'The Future Sugar' (2015). Rey Pila toured with Interpol and Brandon Flowers and then released 'Wall of Goth EPâ (2017), also co-produced by Casablancas and Shawn Everett. The band then toured S. America with The Voidz and opened Depeche Modeâs Mexico shows.
In 2019, they released Lucky No.7 EP and were chosen by The Cure to open their Mexico show. In 2020, they released their third studio album, Velox Veritas.
The band took a hiatus and quietly released E.P. (2022), though it showcases two stellar Boys Noize produced tracks.
In 2024 Rey Pila are back with new music. More to come.
