Chomper is a major recurring plant character within the Plants vs. Zombies franchise. Chomper is a Venus flytrap-like plant that is able to devour certain zombies, destroying them instantly.
Chomper is also frequently given a canine behavior and slobbish nature, with Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville even referring to Chomper as "the plant equivalent of a family dog"
Chomper is based on the Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula), a carnivorous plant native to subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States.
Chomper also has a design similar to Audrey IIs from the film Little Shop of Horrors. This is referenced in Chomper's almanac entry in the original Plants vs. Zombies which reveals that Chomper had a job as Audrey II's stunt double.
Chomper is also very similar to Piranha Plants in Super Mario franchise.
Chomper's name is related to the verb chomp,meaning the act of chewing and munching something loudly or heavily, referring to Chomper's ability to eat zombies
